Update 3-9-13

Spring fever - well it made it up to 40 F., today, so I decided it would be a good day to go fishing or ride the machine. I couldn’t make a decision so I took the bike and strapped on the ever attractive small Rubbermaid black beauty box, with a bit of fishing gear and was off to Blacksmith Fork Canyon, a short ride my house. On the ride up it was a tad nippy at speed but only my knee caps got cold. The road was surprisingly clear of road salt/sand used to melt the white stuff over the winter.

Needed to lock in the hubs, but decided to just walk in the rest of the way to the river.

Spent a couple hours fishing along the river and caught a couple of these 10-12” trout. Not big by any means, but still fun to catch on ultra-light tackle. The big yellow ball in the sky felt good shining down on me, it’s been a long cold winter round these parts. After snagging a few bushes along the river edge I decided to change things up and ride on up further and see how it looked.

Saw two separate flocks of these guys along the road, there’s getting to be a fair number of ‘em around here.

It looks like they are still feeding these elk at Hardware Ranch. Always fun to see this many in one spot. Also saw a bunch of deer but no good pics to share. On the way back down the wind was cranking, then I almost got taken out by two woolly sheep that jumped across the road as I approached, dumb things. It looks like they wintered over up here.

Update 7-7-13

Finally was able to peel away for a couple quick rides in the past couple weeks. Saw quite allot of these Arrowleaf Balsamroot.

It was spectacular actually; pictures just can’t do it justice.

The 30+- mile road between Bern, ID. and Soda Springs, ID., nice quiet ride.

Update 4-4-14

Well it’s about time to get a couple of pics posted from a recent trip to Moab. As many of you know it’s a truly beautiful, relaxing and inspiring place. No broken bones, no skin grafts.
We skipped going last year as I was adding on to my wife’s house. And during the trip in 2012 we came upon a truck rollover in Kane Canyon and several of us did CPR on a young man that did not make it, messed with my mind a bit, sad deal.
This round however was worth the trip.

Update 4-5-14

On the way home from Moab my son and I decided to run up 9 Mile Canyon near Wellington and Price. Lots of rock art and peaceful setting. Worth the trip.

Update 4-12-14

A couple pics. 15 minutes from my house, not a bad view.

Update 6-13-14

So I finally had a couple days to burn and decided to head north to the Jackson/Teton area. The ride up was uneventful; the air was crisp but not too cold. The old V-Strom thumped away without a hitch. Stopped at the cemetery in Soda Springs and paid my respects to my Great Grandpa.
Pulled into Jackson around 11:30 and decided it was time for breakfast/lunch. I was going to stop earlier but didn’t feel that hungry so I decided to wait. After a quick bite at “Great Harvest” I headed north out of Jackson. The Tetons were as majestic as every other time I have seen them. After turning west at Moose Junction, I paid the $20.00 entrance fee for a motorcycle and headed into the park. I was quickly tailgated by a newer Suburban anxious to exceed the speed limit. I am supposing he had not been in the park before and not knowing the zealous nature of the park rangers in patrolling the speed limit. I pulled into a turn out and let them by and admired the mountainous view. Wasn’t even 5 minutes later and I saw them pulled over, bummer.

I kept on moving north for the next few hours stopping, talking with other folks curious about my choice of transportation. The views were spectacular, so much so my photo’s can’t begin to due them justice.

After a few hours of asphalt and a few dirt roads, I turned back towards Jackson. I stopped at a Maverik Store and was fueling up when a nice old fellar also at the pumps, asked if I had come up this way all by myself. I smiled and said nope, there was a dozen or more of us when we left, but one by one they dropped off into the weeds, and I’m the only survivor so far. He got a kick out of that thought and we both laughed. That's it for this round

I'd love to spend a few weeks (or months) in your neck of the woods sometime. Beautiful country.

Sorry to derail, but what windshield are you using on your V-strom? Its flare out at the bottom looks like it might solve some of my turbulence problems on the Wee.

Yup, I am a lucky guy. Just never enough time as we all know to see all that's out there for us.

As for the winshield on the V, it came with it when I bought it used, it developed some stress looking cracks after a few years and the manufacturer "Windstrom" was good enough to go half on a new replacement with me even though it was well out of warranty. Safe travels...
