Gulf Coast Tour Question

My wife and I are planning a tour from Colorado to the Ozarks this summer. We're also thinking of heading south from Arkansas to the gulf coast. She would like to get a place on the water for a few days. Any suggestions? Good roads? Places to stay?

Unfortunately

Gulf Coast took a smacking from Ivan, What are you looking for , hotel, suite type room, condo or house. Rates are higher on weekends. Not sure how much of Pensacola will be open.Gulf Shores Al is coming back the fastest.Fort Walton and Destin are pretty normal.

not on the water but a good stop would be at a plantation home in either Natchez or along the river in La. Many have overnite accomadations, tours and excellent food. over on the coast you could stay at one of the casinos in Gulfport or Biloxi. rooms are reasonable, food is good, the Mississippi coast even though it has casinos doesn't have that glitzy, Vegas feel. Also, if you stay there, you are still within a day ride from New Orleans to Alabamy. pm me if I can help with specific.
