5 days in July a photographic journey

I always get out of town on the the fourth of July weekend, this year I decided I would head for Hells Canyon and see where the wind blew me from there.

I got off work early and fought my way out of town, of course everyone and their brother was on the road, soon enough I escaped the Portland metro area and was in the quiet of central OR. I was just starting to decompress when I noticed the back of the bike didn't feel right.

Not what you want to see.

Fortunately or not I have plenty of experience changing tubes on the side of the road, of course this was fresh chip seal so I had sticky oily rocks to deal with but soon enough I was inflating my new tube.

And on my way, I got to Enterprise just after the sun set so these were the only pics I took on day one.

Day two I decided to just wander around and see what I could see.

The wild flowers were out

It has been a wet year, it isn't usually this green

Still plenty of snow in the high country

Heading back to camp

More tomorrow

Thanks for all the nice comments

Sunday morning I was on the road again, I was heading north to meet a friend for breakfast. I was up at first light packed up and on the road before 7, I had two hours to cover 84 miles. Normally I would say no problem but.

I had light like this

and this road to ride

Still found time to look at the flowers

On the other side of Rattlesnake grade I came into wheat country and I had to stop for a few more.

Ok enough screwing around time to make tracks, I zoomed into Lewiston right on time. After a nice breakfast it was the long trek north, at least I had company.

We did stop to look at some more flowers

Not really a pro, I just figure if people are going to wander off with my pics then they should have my name on them.

A better camera doesn't guarantee better pics I would spend some time looking at great pictures and trying to figure out what makes them great. You should also think about what you want to shoot and not just snap away, visualize the final product before you trip the shutter.

This is great advice, Allan. It also helps greatly to understand how aperture, shutter speed and light can effect depth of field. You're spot on on how to train oneself.
