Help me ID these chipped pieces

I have a 05.5 A with 23,700 miles, all services performed. While changing my oil yesterday I found these two metal pieces stuck to the drain plug magnet on the bottom end of the engine. The primary oil filter did not show any sign of metal, the screen in the oil tank did not show any signs of metal and the oil screen next to the brake petal did not show any signs of metal. The engine starts good, sounds good and runs great. About 3 weeks prior to this oil change I had a high RPM miss shift and slammed it back into gear, wondering if these pieces are broken gear teeth. The pieces do have a curvature to them. I have always used motorex 10-50, full synthetic oil. The pieces look much bigger in pics than real life, largest one less than 1/4 inch long by 1/8 inch wide, also the two pieces themselves do not fit together. Hoping to go on a 600 mile riding trip this weekend, what do you all think?

Open up your clutch cover n have a look at the basket fingers ends - it may well be from there, very pront to brakeage. If the bike is running fine Id be more than happy to go for a little '600' ride. They are a very sturdy motor and believe me you will know when it doesnt want to go any further....

They do indeed look like gear parts from what I can see. Engines just dont normally spit out chunks of metal like that.
Id take em to a professional mechanic and see what he thinks. Really listen close for a whine in what ever gear you slammed it back into when it missed a shift. There could be more chunks floating inside loose still.

I looked at some parts I have, and the first thing laying on top was the balancer shaft, and it has gear teeth of about the size you mention. The timing gears also have that size teeth. I hesitate to even mention this, because I can't imagine why they would break.

I can't tell from your photo, but does the larger piece have three tiny wear marks on it? I certainly hope not.

My pieces do not have those three marks.
Also these have a curvature on one (in the picture I posted) and the other side is flat with a grainy finish.
I will get my camera and try to get some better pictures.

Well, that much is good at least. I'll look around a little more, and see if I can find something a little less scary.

If they were broken gear teeth you'd know it. How does it run through the gears? Any skipping or destructo sounds in 1st through 6th?
If not then it could be shift fork tips. How does it shift?

I'm just guessing here, but from the shape of the pieces and description of the event I'd bet it's a shift fork. Sooner or later it will stop engaging the next gear.
Where were you headed with it?

This bike loves the Dragon... So much fun when you pass some sport bikers with it!

I'll bet it is! The 19/17's are awesome on this bike.

Well, I'd certainly go. It's not like you're headed to the Australian Outback with it...help is a phone call away. You have some sort of towing service? AMA, perhaps?
