quick release plate for camera tripod.....

My darling wife or son (in a fit of well intentioned tidying, i'm sure) has kindly 'tidied up' the base plate for my
old Vivitar 980 camera tripod.....

can any camera expert (nerd/geek/idiot savant) help me with either selling me a replacement or telling me where i can get a replacement?

I am lead to believe that baseplates are not all made equal and so it needs to be size/shape specific...

I am a bit bummed cos i got the tripod off trademe to practice my panorama's and it turned up with a broken off in transit leg catch and now i've gone n lost the baseplate!

here's a pic:

I'm not very camera savvy so I'm not sure if there's other info i should be giving you to help me - PnV in Merivale (who i rate very highly) said a while back that they couldnt get parts to fix the broken leg catch as it was an old tripod...

Can anyone help?

Cheers

I cant help with finding a baseplate, but I can tell you that all base plates are not made the same. We have about 6 different branded tripods here (university research laboratory) to hold cameras and they all have different sizes of baseplate. I have one of these: http://dicksmith.co.nz/product/XG997...rshot-handycam to carry on the bike as its small and lightweight, no baseplate either

wow thats a name i haven't heard for a long time..

I had a vivitar 35mm SLR when I was taking photography at high school. I dunno about the base plates, but from memory they took pentax lenses.

I'd suggest you just take it into a camera shop and line it up against other cameras and tripods.

Or maybe even rat about on google. According to this link, $17 for a quick release plate http://www.tripodquickrelease.com/Vi...k_Releases.htm

model 3516, has dimensions... 43x46mm. Is that what you're after?
