Thanks to PackMule for the awesome interview with Ned.

And thanks for humoring me with my question about which audiobook he was listening to.

Interesting idea to use a book that you have already read. Keeps you occupied, but you can tune it out when needing to focus. Good stuff

Several Armies have actually studied how the ASO runs logistics and base camps since they are so efficient and dynamic in their operations.

Is it time to start thinking about fund raising for next year?

Too fun!

I was on my way home from the holidays today where, due to crap management and organisation, I had no TV and crappy intermittent internet coverage. I have only been able to load a portion of a page every now and then. Compared to the elite F5’s here I didn’t even make it through scrutineering so to speak.

Anyway, once on my way and thanks to the cliff notes version, I had managed to load up Ned’s 22 minutes of feedback on his 2nd day on my Iphone and piped it into my helmet.

I was riding along taking a dirt detour to savour the story. I was smiling listening to him of his tales and me, being on the bike on a gravel section, was transported in a way to a bit of the Dakar. I was laughing at his use of audio books to pass the time, because, here he was “reading” his story to me. I was sorry when my 22 minutes was up. The mild detour and his story left me in great spirits wishing that I could have heard more of others’ stories and their adventures.

Thanks Ned and Rally Radio for making this happen and joining the dream in a small way.

Ride Safe.

When I heard that he was running at 120kph on the wide open stuff and weaker riders passing him on KTM rally replicas at 160, I thought that we're going to need to factor in a bit more dosh for next year's campaign.

I want to go on the record that I'm offering to pick up his bike at Mattighofen and ride it to the airport. With a few break-in detours, maybe...

I know he plays it down a lot by saying he just want to finish and yes, that is a realistic goal-but at the same time, Ned is very competitive. And while he's having fun, he's been working his butt off for this. His focus has been so tremendous, if you had a chance to observe him over the last few months like I have, you wouldn't be so surprised.
I obviously struck a chord, so I feel compelled to respond...

I in no way meant to belittle Ned's drive, enthusiasm, and least of all, ability. I simply meant that of all the barriers including 2 experienced and skilled US pro's and being his first attempt, the odds of him being in the top 2 of US riders at the end of day 2 seemed incredibly improbable!

Now I'm just enjoying the Ned show!
