I know he plays it down a lot by saying he just want to finish and yes, that is a realistic goal-but at the same time, Ned is very competitive. And while he's having fun, he's been working his butt off for this. His focus has been so tremendous, if you had a chance to observe him over the last few months like I have, you wouldn't be so surprised.
I obviously struck a chord, so I feel compelled to respond...

I in no way meant to belittle Ned's drive, enthusiasm, and least of all, ability. I simply meant that of all the barriers including 2 experienced and skilled US pro's and being his first attempt, the odds of him being in the top 2 of US riders at the end of day 2 seemed incredibly improbable!

Now I'm just enjoying the Ned show!

I want to go on the record that I'm offering to pick up his bike at Mattighofen and ride it to the airport. With a few break-in detours, maybe...

Looks like Ned lost some time at CP2 21:56 ?

Edit: But he's up from 62 to 56th place, so maybe not...

I'm sure he'll lose more and more time from the leaders; those guys are from another planet. The longer the stage, the more distance they'll put between themselves and everyone else...

Are they the aliens who built the pyramids?
HEY! Maybe the pyramids are actually waypoints!!

Thanks Hayduke for pointing out the fact that a longer stage would increase tle amount he falls behind.
I didn't think about THAT....

At least he's still moving up in position

GO NED GO!!!

Ned's going to ride his own ride, and not get caught in the trap of trying to catch the faster guys; he's a smart rider.

"don't let the snowball get too big"

I'm amazed at how relaxed he sounded on the call last night, and very much in control. Certainly a good sign.

Apparently Coma got lost after WP 3 and will lose some time (perhaps following the car route?). Hopefully Ned is paying attention since he's getting close to same area.

Something pretty interesting...

yesterday, Ned's overall pace was 77% of the leader.

today, through 2 check points he's right at 78%. That's some fine consistency.
