And don't just click on it. Read it or leave the window open long enough to have read it. And then go click around a bit and look at their products...

ALL of that is tracked.

Does Ned have any plan for dealing with the high altitude?

I remember Jonah saying he was going to bring oxygen this year due to his pretty severe reaction to the altitude last year.

This is one of those things I mentioned last week.
Jonah lost a magazine sponsorship this year due to the fact that it was copy pasted all over ADV last year and no one read the source.

He is confident with us living at 6k and riding in 7-10k all the time. Feels he has an edge over the others living at sea level. Not sure how much red blood cells you loose being at sea level for a few weeks? They say quite a bit, we will see tomorrow.

They'll be between 10,000 and 11,500 for a short time tomorrow, correct?

Concur with c.vestal...Ned's right-hand wrist has been a "hitch in his git'a'long" for as long as I have known him. It's an old scaphoid fracture/injury that if I recall correctly only healed partially, and then he had it mostly fused, and while it seems to work just fine, it is VERY painful to him. He rides so much that I think it has been muscled and built up to the extent that it really is never going to get better without some sort of total reconstruction. Considering that it DOES force him to ride more gingerly, especially in sand and soft terrain where the front end will do unpredictable things, it may be a blessing in disguise in the same way - especially at events like this, with competition nearby like this.

I think the FASST bars did not work for him because of the fusion - even though they let your wrist and arm "roll with the punches," they also force it to articulate in the arc that the "arm" of those bars takes with each cycle. And the shock load is not nearly as painful for Ned than lateral pronation, etc - his range of movement is really restricted and exceeding that is what causes the pain and inflammation, mostly.

I know that on several of his non-rally bikes he ran the KTM PHDS setup:

...but on the rallybike, I think with the BRP top tripleclamp he can't run those:

Interestingly, he does not seem to wear grips funny, though, so it's clearly a ROM issue and not a "load" issue, as long as the ROM isn't pushed.

OK, I clicked on the article, read it and hit the "like" button on the bottom. I was #17. Then I checked out some panniers for my F650GS. Hope that helps

That's good to know. Having been a mountain climber for 15 years, I know altitude effects are an odd beast. People vary all over the place in how altitude affects them, no matter how fit or unfit they are, it's how their basic physiology is made. I've ridden dirtbikes over 15K feet in Peru and felt fine, but seen other riders start showing signs of edema at 9K feet. Sounds like Ned has tested himself on that issue and should be fine.

There is very little risk of serious altitude-related illness associated with a brief ascent to that altitude, especially for Ned. The danger of experiencing deadly HAPE/HACE is much higher when flying from sea level into a place such as Cusco (11,000 FT) for vacation. It may be hard for Ned to catch his breath, but shouldn't be dangerous.

Great thread,
Go Ned Go !!!
