What I've read is that it takes you roughly a week to acclimate on the way up but only three days to lose it all when you head down. I've also noticed that people who are not prone to altitude sickness and are in good physical condition don't have a problem with altitude as long as they stay hydrated. I'd bet Ned will be fine with the altitude.

VIDEO (SFW)

I had to take that one time to show him how bad it really was, and he still didn't believe me. It goes on like that the entire time he's asleep.

Hahah...I was under the impression he was non-human!

Great job, Ned.

Peace.

That video is hilarious!

As for his top riding speed, yeah you know he can ride faster but he still has 9 days to go and there are 100 things a day that can take you out. He's riding smart, keeping his speed sensible and keeping his errors down to an absolute minimum. By reducing your riding rate 10% you'll make a lot less navigation and riding errors increasing your overall stage speed by whatever margin. He knows it's all about the end game and taking as few risks as possible day by day will increase the odds of getting to the end by a lot.

It took me too many days to learn that in Mongolia, I was lucky my ignorance didn't end my rally early.

I'll bring a pair of decibel meters with dataloggers and you can get separate rooms. No performance-enhancing drugs(Ambien, Benadryl, etc.) allowed. Piss test in the morning...

Tomorrow's stage cancelled

Looks like Stage 6 has been cancelled because of bad snow and rain storms in the andes. I am sure the extra rest day will be well received, but there is something to be said for being in a groove and wanting to stay there!!

Either way, keep kicking a$$ Ned!!

I live in Colorado and ride at altitude all the time.
11k is childs play. Ned is not going to notice it and and will for sure have an advantage over non acclimatized riders, especially during the night at bivys.
16k on the other hand is high for anybody. Thank god it is on pavement.

Rain and snow and slippery rocks would have given Chris Birch a chance to win a stage and that would have been cool to see! Sad.

Ned - I expect a handsome reward for sisterly restraint on this topic. Love, Jen
