Hey Flood - it seems to be a growing trend - a number bikes on the Dakar this year were running just LEDS lights - typically the Vision-X Solstice lights - certainly The Honda Europe bikes and Mecasystem CRFs had them...

Also the 2012 version of the JVO kit for the WR/YZF only uses a pair of the Vision-X lights side-by-side now (dropping the crappy stock WR lamp), although the JVO kit does have the provision to mount a third lamp (HID) above them within the nav tower in the same way as the original kit.



Most people seemed to be running twin LEDs (one low beam, one high and/or together presumably), and although Jorge at JVO supplies the kit with just one lamp (flood beam) as standard, there is the option to fit a second one as required... I imagine for the majority of races, you only really need the one as a daytime marker light...

What I'm excited about is how tough they are. I feel a great deal of confidence that even with the incredible pounding and vibration they'll endure, when I switch them on they will work.

I don't have much mileage on the headlights (OK, any at all) but the LED taillights I've been using for years are amazing- I've put the same unit on every one of my 530s, it's still as bright as the first day.

It's clearly the future, I think.

Hey Ned, do you think the light output is enough for higher speeds at night? I've been real happy with the 8" HID and I always thought the bigger the reflector, the better the lighting. A no replacement for displacement, kind of argument I've got a RIGID industries light sitting on my tool box but I'm not sure it's going to be enough for night stages.

Your rally scoot is looking good, count me in for support.

Those LED's also offer the benefit of a reduced load on the alternator and about 2600 lumens worth of light. Add some thermal switching to reduce the output when the lamp heats up and it sounds like a win to me.
