"The pin on the steering damper had fallen below the arm. No wonder I was scared!"
Translation = no steering damper and very scary at high speed on the sand when you are used to a damper slowing down the steering. (That ok for the friends and family version Tim? )

Some more great webventure.com.br photos today.

Scary indeed!

Ned's doing a great job in the face of adversity, is he not!?!

And that webventure is getting some great shots, eh!

I took the liberty of cropping and zooming that last one just, well just because.

Not so much fun today, apparently, but he's still loyal to his plan!

Despite the boorishness of the stage, he still found a couple things to enjoy.

I suppose I'm the "Tim" being addressed here? If that's the case: I think that will make sense to most people who have ever ridden with a steering damper. In Ned's case, in this type of terrain + dust and over these distances and with his wrist the way it is, it was probably more of a handicap than many might consider it to be.

I'll save my opinions on damper necessity and correct setting/function for another thread...

Any updates here? He never mentions it on the calls so maybe not a huge factor?

It must not be, at this point. JMO, but the ONLY time I've ever seen Ned not ride or cut any ride short was due to his wrist, so I had assumed that would be the biggest factor in this whole effort from a showstopper sandpoint. I don't say that in some sort of cynical or ingenuous way at all - only that I tend to look at worst-case scenarios and this was what came up as a major contributor in my mind.

Either he's toughing it out or it just isn;t bothering him at all, who knows - who cares? He's past halfway and forging ahead!

Did we get the second call on RallyRAIDio where he talks about the steering damper? I'm only seeing one call.
