Honestly, I have probably a few hundred hours in the dunes - but all with a paddle, and most with a really light bike with ~50+ HP. The big tank, no paddle and freshly windblown sand put me through a learning curve I haven't had to climb for a long time there.

Always fun, though! And one of the most surreal places to ride a motorcycle on Earth.

So Neduro what are your plans for carrying your gear? Are you just planning on packing everything into your jacket or will you be adding a backpack/tool pack to give you extra room for stuff? Maybe just a small hydration bag that holds a few repair essentials without weighting you down? I don't see any bags on the bike so I assume you won't have the bike carrying anything extra.

EDIT: In the above photos it looks like a backpack combined with a fanny pack. Or is that Hilslamer instead of you?

Hilslamer maybe you can way in here if you know. Im sure Ned is busy enough.

Did the Jeeps make it up the cement canal?

They didn't go quite that far, plus I provided roadbook edits so they could bypass the car unfriendly spots. Darren did say they spent a good deal of time with sand planks and digging the cars out when they were in dunes hell. I think that's where they saw fresh moto tracks, which may have been from Ned and Embro and gang.

There's another activity using some of the routes we created for DVR 2007. "SpecialForces" are using my routes (Vegas-Pahrump-Dumont-MormonSprgs-Afton-Ludlow-Parker-Yuma) to practice their unique version of navigation and 4x4 techniques. The "instructor" is out there right now prerunning it for a second time. After the first prerun he asked for some extra tough stuff, so I pointed him to that cement canal climb as one of the "not sure you can make it, but give it a try" spots!

coming soon!

I'll let Chris answer from his end. From my end I'm still working out the last couple of details for the production fairings. It's going to be a pretty cool setup for the kind of riding you do It'll likely even survive the kind of crashing you do

Sorry, but I think I have YP completely outclassed in the "drop it, crash it, get it stuck in the mud" survival testing for the new mere mortal version of the rally kit!

PS: The dune pictures look awesome! So much fun (unless of course you are halfway through a Dakar stage, physically and mentally exhausted, and having race Touaregs and Pajero's flying over the crests of the dunes you are buried behind )

The second photo is one Ned took of me. I was chasing most of the time out there so as to let them do their own navigation. I spent most of the day giving them headings and mileages to follow on their GPS, that I took from my GPS and tracks through trains of dunes that I had pre-planned for the time of day and sun angles, etc. Some of them were a little evil-er than I thought, but it worked out...heh heh heh...

Ned will be running his Klim Adventure Rally Jacket, stocked with all neccessities. In the picture of me was running a Klim Revolt jersey, NacPac and also a Scramble Pak...those are my standard complement for most riding and by that time of the day I had removed my outer layer.

Does the Rally Kit put the SGMoto fairing on the back burner?

Any idea on the ball-park cost?

Care to offer a waypoint, either in a post or PM? Not sure exactly where you mean...interested, though.

Yes but don't tell Kurt

I'm not sure on the retail price. I think Chris is still working on that.

I don't know Pual, I've seen the aftermath of a Dan crash where you have to start asking questions like, who's the president, and what year is it. All I've seen you do is completely submerge your bike in the mud

P.S. The mere mortal version will be better than the race version in several ways because of all of the testing and feedback from Ned and Chris
