Well there may or there may not be rules against changing gearing - it just depends on whether you are French or not (and if you are not French it depends on whether you are in front of the French riders)

Question: How to read some of the columns:

If his final stage position is 75, then what is 2nd number 77 in () - position after what was completed ?
WP1 vs. WPA: Is this Waypoint 1 (the first one), vs. Waypoint Arrivee (finish) perhaps ?
What is the (64) between WP1 and WPA? Is it his position after WP1 ?

SS1 had only one Waypoint/Checkpoint. Tomorrow's SS2 will have 4. He was 4 mins. 7 secs. behind the leader at WP1, then in 64th position. He arrived at the finish waypoint (way point arriveé, WPA) 10 mins. 7secs. behind the winner.

Ok so (77) means 77th rider to start, will this vary each stage and track your overall class position ?

Also, what does it mean for Jonah when WP1 is not shown (all ---'s) yet he finished 10th? Is that just a missed timing event? I mean you DO have to be clocked at every Waypoint, right? or only at the final one?

AFAIK, gearing is free to change(wheels are free to exchange, etc). IMO, not sure why he says this as I ride the same bike withwhat I know was the gearing he started with and with the D908 tires on, cut or not, it was very manageable. Then again, I don't have that much fuel on board or that much spares/equipment etc either. I can see being down on power, and it will only worsen exponentially with elevation. If the guy on the 150XC can make it through though, Ned should be fine.

With regards to his finish today, and knowing Neds relative speed, my guess is that he's not even riding to 75% of the safe zone on his scale. Wich is smart, keep that wrist healthy and save the bursts for when others make mistakes in Navigation!
