Generally, it means nothing more than a bookkeeping problem. His tracker may have been out of order, will will see this many times. Actually missed way points result in heavy time penalties that will become apparent on the next day.
Thanks so much for deciphering the race garb for everyone (me), it's really appreciated!!

He has to keep himself strong and healthy and the bike in good shape..... that's just my strategy, but I know he can give the competition a run for their money

SS1 results after 57km mean just about nothing, but even if we'd say that Ned is about 70th quickest, with half the field dropping out by the end of the race, this would put him near the top 30. And we all know he is faster.

You can't win the Dakar in a stage, but you can sure as hell lose it.

Bikes have a 120 km per hour limit and our truck has a 110. We had the bivy setup before Ned and Jonah got in. Just had dinner with Ned, mechanics are hard at it, riders doing roadbooks. A great first day for RPA

All riders came in without problems, one of them winning a top ten spot. Bragging rights in the bivouac, I'd say.

As many of the top contenders have experienced over the years, even in the not so recent past...

Ned is smart. Very smart. He's going to ride a smart race and make the most of his abilities-but no matter what-he's also going to just plain enjoy it and live it. And that, in itself, gives him an edge too. Just saying.
Because it's not just about a race. It's about a whole lot more, as you all have proven (just yesterday again), so many times.
Pura Vida.

"ALL" riders are in now? I guess they would be it's 8:20 there. Obviously my hubby is not doing his texting job to me at all....as I know nothing. Dont know why I can't figure this out yet this year.

Brrr!!

I shaved my noggin for the cause. Haven't had a haircut since 1991. Go NED Go. It is a nice day in Colorado but colder than South America "@ 80 on the bike. Nothing like a boring ride through the sand. Keep her Up and FORWARD.

Jackie Ickx used to advise newcomers to the Dakar to ride / drive at about 80% each day and let attrition move them up through the score sheets as the race went on. He said in most cases his advise was ignored as folks felt they had to race from Day One, and that would lead to them being some of the attrition.
Just finished "Against Gravity" yesterday (thanks Geode) and those excerpts from Ickx were great. Quite the story, now I'll have to find anther interested soul to hand it off to

It is very early to define a leader, but all of us know who went to the race to win, and who went for the joy of the experience.

Lets hope that everyone gets to Lima at last!
