The new ride:
Monday 22nd I started a new ride, around 2000km and this time with the Retro.

There was no handlebar kit at the shop when I get my Garmin so I used the support of the previous GPS and I will manage to hold it with rubber bands (...)
There is "two places" on the ride where I prefer to have the GPS to find the road, so I will not use it permanently.

04.22 Novorossiysk/Stavropol - 540km

Initial plan was to stop at Armavir, I went in town then I decided to get back on the main road and to continue...
The weather was not so good with some rain, hopefully not too much trucks in front of me...

04.23 - Stavropol/Elista - 270km

Today, no rain but a very strong wind (face)... Yesterday no time to sleep on the road with a lot of curves, today I should say that in comparison it was a little bit boring with a lot of long long straight lines... sure that with the wind in the back it will have been more funny.

Some pictures on the road and at Elista, Republic of Kalmoukie.

04.24 - Elista/Volgograd - 340km

In fact the distance between the two cities is around 280km but I went to the memorial then back to the center.

Rain for all the ride... and sun in town this evening...

Well tomorrow it's a day "off" and I stay in town.

Friday back on the road to reach Rostov.

Went to the car-wash then at the place of the Bike Show (August 23rd), preparation of the territory already started.

Good to see your nice Ural back on the road.
In the last pictures there is one with a WW2 plane on the roof (Yak?). Is it a museum?

04.26 - Volgograd / Rostov - 553km

6am I left Volgograd and at 4pm I was at the "Bike Post" close to Rostov. Initially I wanted to use the "south" road to join Rostov, but my friends in Volgograd told me that the road was in bad condition, if somebody from Volgograd told you that a road is in bad condition better to listen, they are specialists in Volgograd... (it's really a shame to see how are the roads inside the city :x )
So, I start my day on the "north road", already done in 2011, I wanted something "new" and to avoid the M4 Highway and crossing Rostov.
The weather was ok excepted a strong side - wind, I have overtaken by a bike (VFR), then I met him at a gas station we have a coffee and I told him about the itinerary, luckily we were at Morozovsk just before the junction to Volgodonsk and he told me that this section was ok.
So, we left the gas station, then less than 1km we've been stopped by the police just at the junction (Ural effect...), it was a good day: 3 times I have been stopped by the police, always at the check points.
(Monday once: at the exit of a village by a patrol car, Tuesday once: at a check point, Wednesday: zero, Thursday inside Volgograd: zero, Saturday: zero and Sunday: zero, but a 10mn UDF with two policemen's at a gas station)

Even with the controls it was a nice day, good weather and less wind in the afternoon.

04.27 - Azov , opening of the season.
A local club were organizing the opening of the bike season, in a place near to Azov (30km) on the Azov Sea, from the center town to the place we were escorted by the police (one car to open the road and on at the back to prevent the "intrusion" of cars...)
The neighbour of the Bike Post is teh owner of a K750, we went for a short ride to Rostov.

04.28 - Bataysk/Krasnodar/Novorossiysk - 447km
I was staying, "as usual" at he Kartodrom hotel, but instead of going straight to Novorossiysk I went to Krasnodar HD to collect the original exhaust of my "Slim" (Vance&Hines installed two weeks ago), the others parts ordered are still "on their way"...

Close to Krimsk their is a "short cut", this time I took some pictures:

End of this ride: 2340km

Yuri's reply today ...

"Privet Tovarish!!!

Thanks you for the links from a forum about travel on southern regions of my Native land.

Specially I have received feelings of nostalgia from photos about Volgograd (Stalingrad) it to me have reminded about cheerful time in the Russian Army and happy day when I would arrive on station Volgograd what to go home.

I wait from you more tempting photos about a motorcycle life and there can be I will find time to come into garage to my friend URAL and too to sweep on it!

Dosvidaniay moi BRAT!!!"

Seems you've shamed him into getting his Ural out at last

There was 3 more ride in 2013 with the Ural Retro:

- June: "Uralgon" near Nizhny Novgorod -- 2367km

- August: "BikeShow" at "Stalingrad" (Volgograd) -- 2360km

- October: "Olympic flame" Moscow -- 3010km

-------------------------------------------------------------------
June - "Uralgon 2013'" - (http://www.uralgon.ru)

06.24 - Novorossiysk / Bogutchar 724km
Left at 7am and arrived around 7pm - Have been stopped twice by the police for documents checking. Less than 10km between the 2 controls. Nothing special with the roads, I join the federal road M4 in the afternoon,

06.25 - Bogutchar / Tambov 420km
The "recommended itinerary for Tambov is to continue on the M4 until Voronesh then catch the road to Volgograd, it's "longer" but could be faster if you are not with the Ural
So I decided to use an other option "shorter" and I went by some small roads and villages.

Some pictures of the two days:

06.26 Tambov / Pavlovo 506km
An other warm day. The roads are really in poor conditions for almost half of this section, in some place I can only drive at 20/30km/h no more... In the section without asphalt you can even drive faster because it was levelled and without holes...

They are working in some sections but there is still a huge work to be done...

Some pictures of the day:

06.27 – Pavlovo
The front brake was very leak on the last days so when during my discovering the city ride I found “Bike Free” I stop and ask them if they can add some brake fluid, but still the same feeling, then they have a look on the pads and they were done…
Why I didn’t have a look myself to the pads? Just because the Retro as only 10000km and I changed the pads at 20000km on the Gear Up… Hopefully the Brembo is also used on some Yamaha and they had some pads for a Dragstar that fit the Retro…

06.28- Pavlovo – Nizhniy Novogorod – Pavlovo
A friend of mine needed some spare parts for his truck , so we went to the automotive market at Nizhniy (70km from Pavlovo).
More peoples arrived at the “festival” and the concerts started.

06.29 – Pavlovo “Uralgon”
Here we are, in 2011 I have been invited by the organization to come to the Uralgon, this year it was possible to come.
By 11am we went with many other Urals and other bikes to the “competition track”…
As you can see on the pictures in fact it’s a local road just closed to the circulation for the “Uralgon”…
I never plan to participate to the race, even on site I was thinking that all the participants were already registered, but no… So when the organizations ask me if I will do the race, I answered: why not?
I didn’t understood well when we shift from the tests runs to the race runs but the result is that I win the second place in the category “sidecar 750cc standard”.
After the Uralgon we went back to the “festival” for some animations, receiving our price and the final concert.

Uralgon 2012

Uralgon 2013

06.30 – Pavlovo – Moscow
My initial plan was to make it in two days, because I was now with Nikolai and I wanted to visit Vladimir located at mid-way. But my friend Andrei with his Patrol was going straight to Moscow, so I changed my plan and we left the festival by 10am arriving at Moscow by 5pm.

Conclusion:
It’s not the longest ride I have done but it was an interesting one, can you imagine leaving the house for a 1600km ride, win the second place at the Uralgon then drove to Moscow.
( due to lack of time, my friend Nikolai drove the Retro back to the south…)

Bikeshow 2013

Novorossiysk - Stakingrad (Volgograd) Novorossiysk -- 2360km

08.18 Novorossiysk - Salzk 460km
Left by 7am this morning, the Retro (and me) greatly appreciate the "fresh air" before the sun. All the week it was above 30C...
Only been stopped once by the police 80km from home, at they were along the road and I didn't go faster than the speed limit, I ask him why do you stop me?
"special operation for motorcycles"
Do have the order with you?
"of course"
I was smiling when asking those questions and the policeman also
especially for his last answer... As usual he look very rapidly to my documents and ask the usual questions about the Ural.
There is a lot of section with ongoing work and before Salsk around 5 km without the asphalt... but also some nice sections so for this day the average in tern of "quality" is ok.

08.19 Salzk-Vogograd 400km
Today I left by 6am, the road wasn't "good" as yesterday and almost 100km under the rain.
Hopefully not too many trucks it wasn't like last time with 300km under the rain+wind+trucks... from Elista to Volgograd.
No police today... there was some along the road for speed control and at the region's crossing.
As yesterday some car's passengers were taken me in picture when they overpassed me.

Speed? 55/60 is ok with the Retro you can get to 70 but I will not hold it for a long time it's good to pass one or two trucks then back to 55/60 :)
