08.23 "Bike Show"

On Friday morning the parade start in drection of the Tractor factory for a small ceremony then to the center town at the railway station for the opening of the Children’s Dance fountain:
http://rt.com/news/volgograd-fountai...talingrad-896/

Then back on site for the show and the concerts. No pictures for the night part.

It's Anna, actually in Asia, I was lucky to met here in Moscow then at the BikeShow:

08.24 Volgograd - Novorossiysk 859km
I left by 4am, pick my bags at the hotel (they keep them for me) and I drive 60km to the outside of the city and have a couple of hours sleep in a Motel before starting my ride back home. At 11am I was back on the saddle until midnight...
I didn't stop for pictures....

Weather was ok, still hot with +26C but no rain. As usual there was some police along the road but unusual for me: zero documents control...
Near miss? Truck tire blowout a big part of the tire went out with the mud cover and one or 2 cars were hit...
When I arrive the truck driver was walking to the car... :foilhead:

During one of my ride to Moscow I was just behind a truck when the tire blowout but hopfully nothing compare to what I have seen yesterday, it just a big bang that woke me up

Problem with the Ural? Well nothing special to mention. Just the right mirror get a little bit loose and time to time needed to be readjusted...

October - Moscow "Olympic Flame"

As you know in the south we don't close the "season"...
At Moscow the closing of the season was a little bit "special" because they choose the date of the Olympic flame arrival...
So as I decided to go to Moscow...

10-03 -- Novorossiysk / M4 Rostov - 496km
Rain for this first day, not heavy but permanent... and around 10C.
I make a first stop at the Bike Post before Rostov and I visited the neighbour's "garage". In fact he used to restore some old Ural and Dnper then sold them in Germany and come back with second hand Japanese bikes on the trailer.

View of his "stock" before preparation:

An original police version with the siren:

At the Motel "888":

I didn't took a picture of the room but they have a heating floor system and it was very convenient to dry all my gear

10.04 -- M4 Rostov / Voronezh - 467km

Same weather as yesterday but with only 1C to 3C and some snow on the side of the road...

The little problem when you are used to drive a Gear Up is that you go where you want (or almost), maybe it's due to the cold, tired? or whatever excuses I can find even if there is no excuses... I went way too far for the Retro and I got the front wheel stuck by the mud...

Well, after all it's only 4 bolts to remove the fender? Yes... of course 3 went out but the last one decided to stay...
So it took me around 2 hours to do what 50m?... using the reverse and pushing the hack. Each meter I have to remove the mud from the transmission shaft.
At 2 meter from a harder surface I try to put some branches under the wheels but no way the Ural don't move...
One guy stop with his car and I ask him to help me, first he refused saying that he will also get stuck... then I try to stop some cars on the nearby highway but no success, hopefully the guy accepted to try and we succeed to bring the Ural on the "hard surface"... then I manage to turn it make several time front and back to "clean" a little the front wheel, it was enough to pass the small remaining place with mud and get back on the "asphalt"...

No close-up pictures but I am sure that you can imagine how was the Ural (and me).
Before Voronezh I stop at a truck wash to clean a little the hack...

10.05 -- Voronezh / Moscow - 485km

Still cold on Saturday but no rain. Between Rostov and Voronezh there is still a few sections without the highway, they are working on it, but from Vorenezh to Moscow it's "100%" so very boring for an Ural or any transport...
As usual to "relax" from the North/West wind (I am going to the North) and the cold: I look for a truck going at 50/55mph and I stay just behind... of course you have to be very vigilant on the asphalt to avoid any potholes (no time to avoid them)

On the MKAD (Moscow circular ring) I get stuck in the traffic jam, then I reach the Bike-Center.
There is a few rooms and I got this one:

Kilometers of the day:

Nota: one police control at a check point before Moscow and it's the only one's of this ride...

10/06 -- Moscow - Olympic flame and closing of the season
In 2011, I went to Moscow for the closing of the season, we have done a short parade in town then back at the Bike Center for the party.
But this year there was a special event: the arrival of the Olympic flame and we went to the highway close to the airport and back to the city center.

she wasn't a pillion and she get her own bike, don't know how she manage with her heels...

The Retro is ready with his flag:

Waiting the "flame" on the highway near the airport.

10/07 -- Moscow / Voronezh - 482km
100km after Moscow, I saw a bike on the opposite lane: short of gasoline...
She was really "happy" to see me crossing the safety barriers with my can and give her enough litres to get to the next station...
She ask: ho much? I answered: a picture

10/08 -- Voronezh / Rostov - 574km
Nothing special, there is still some work on the M4 on the sections without the highway.
I crossed Rostov and stayed at the "Kartodrom"

10/09 -- Rostov / Novorossiysk- 385km
I left early morning, 6am, the "Kartodrom". Till 8am there was some fog but after that nice weather.
I met a guy on his way to Krasnodar with his GS800 we stop for a coffee.

Laugh Leathers Question....

In a lot of your pictures of the bike culture, the men are wearing very interesting gear. The wide pistol type belts with the pouches and the unique vests...are those military pieces? The "Night Wolves" have a style that is very different than American Biker/Pirate looking club gear. Where do they get that stuff?? I'd love one of those belts. Very cool!

This is an awesome ride report. The pictures of the women alone even my wife commented on!

For the belts some pictures can be find here, (150$ in Moscow). I have no informations if they send their products overseas.

Regarding the leather vests, most of them are made by locals tailors.
