Cool2 Oh My Shame!

Well I failed! I failed miserably! Promised to make an attempt at finding the "ghost fuel can" behind the third bush on the left...

Went to ODR and stayed at Page Springs CG. Started from Enterprise Thursday and fully planned to search for can the following Wednesday on way out. At least that was the plan. Enter my poor estimation of time and distance vs. travel time. I ended up not going the 100+ miles out and back off of Hwy 205 to look for the can because that would have cut my trip by a full day and I was way worried that my rear TKC would never make it home [ TKC did just fine cuz I forgot the first 50% of the lugs go quickly and not to worry so damn much.. it made it home with many miles to spare]. So folks I punked out. Spent the night at Willow Creek Hot Springs listening to the songs of the coyotes and feeling very guilty about reneging on a promise.

I am already planning routes south and SE of Funnel Canyon for next year so unless one of you goes back to look for the can I will. And this time I will plan to camp out there.

On way home Succor Creek Cyn was hot but interesting, in spite of the Kamikaze beater truck driver who tried to eat me and my bike. Same for Snake River Road, being on outside of curves headed North made for some interesting encounters with rigs going South; long way down to river! Ended with 1,200 miles on trip and at least 900+ of that dirt.

No worries, Phil...it's all part of the adventure!

Let me know when you go next year and maybe I'll run out there to meet you.

Would be a good treasure hunt!

Frenchglen fire

Nice report! You guys are far more ambitious than a couple of Losers, but very interesting to read your story of similar difficulties getting from Hart Mountain to Fields (linked from Two losers loop Eastern Oregon ).

Interesting to see how relatively green that flat area was in your photo from west/SW of Frenchglen in Sep 2011:

I'm 95% sure that this photo from Oct 2012 was taken within a mile of that one. Pretty sure I was near the low, close ridge at the left side of your pic:

What a difference a year and a big fire makes! Miles and miles of that area were burned.

Indeed!

I remember thinking how dry that area was, dry as a tinder box.

It was shortly after this ride that we all bought 5.7 gallon safari tanks. I REALLY thought we were going to spend the night in the desert that night.

But, as with all great adventures, I'm looking forward to doing it again!
