this would rule.

it would also give me a great excuse to get a top box. :)

[begins drafting letter expressing support and describing how motorycles lane split in CA and it encourages people to use less fuel-intensive means of commuting and saves them time.]

of course in texas, the first few folks to do this are likely to get some road rage from the folks in the cages. there'll be an education period.

Lane Splittling

Driving to lunch today in a box was lame. The highlight was seeing a sport rider in my rear-view mirrors moving through the rest of us stuck in place. Caution: he did get several angry honks while I was watching. There's definitely an education process needed. It may include labotomies.

Realistically, I have to wonder about that legal possibility. With the construction of SH130 underway, I don't see a Texas legislature looking to find solutions to the high cost of road construction, other than to keep building bigger highways. Stop me before I have to go to the Penalty Box.

Lane "sharing"

The State of Washington has a similar bill that would allow motorcyclist to "lane share". I hope it passes soon. After living in CA for so long where it was legal I was disappointed that we couldn't do that up in WA. The traffic up here isn't even close to being as grid locked as San Diego is during rush hour (4-6:30) Only a couple places up there it would be beneficial.

I wouldn't be doing it right after the bill is passed. Cagers are still occasionally pissed even here in CA, where it's so commonly done, I can't even imagine how long it will take the locals to warm up to the idea. Never mind that it helps the flow of traffic.

You got that right! Angry cagers --they will be stuck in traffic regardless of what law passes, why do they go out of their way to hurt us freedom seekers? Human nature will never be totally understood.

what a lame bill

Oh great then we'll be able to lane split if the traffic is going less than 20 mph, then I'll be able to accelerate to a brisk 25 mph. I can hardly contain myself.

So you'd rather just sit there, as is the case now. Thanks for weighing in.

Guess I have a different perspective, not living in a big City. I haven't encountered any 20 mph traffic lately.

I guess by 'lane splitting' you guys mean what we call in the UK 'filtering'. That's riding between lines of cars when they are stationary (or not) right?

I can't believe you can't do that in some places in the USA.

It's frowned upon and with police around I'd slow right down but filtering at high speeds (100mph) is normal on many motorways in the UK. Bet you'd like that eh?

Hence the reason for this law. To help congestion in the big cities.

hey, the land of the free is just trying to save my life. just like how speeding tickets teach citizens a valid lesson about safe motoring. these laws are just there to protect us from ourselves.

apparently, we're too stupid to make choices about our risk levels ourselves.

oh well, at least they havn't outlawed motorcycles altogether for our own good yet.
