Thumb Gracious House & Denali Hwy

Spousal Unit and I rode the Denali Highway loop yesterday (Fairbanks, Cantwell, Denali Hwy, Paxson, Fairbanks). The Denali is in great shape. There was one short section that had new and deep gravel that did not have any lanes cleared by the cage traffic as of yet. That and some dust were the only issues.

I want to put a plug in for Gracious House, a lodge located at mile 82. If you’re just passing by it is a great place to get gas, an espresso and a cinnamon role. If you are looking for a place to stay they offer camping or cabins, as well as a full service bar. I have no affiliation with Gracious House, but I do think they are good folks that could use some business. The café is closed so the entire operation is running out of the bar. A great place from which to base a hunting trip or snogo outing, and they also have a flight service for tours. And the lady who runs the place has just taken up riding at age 70.

If you are a rider in Alaska just for a visit then riding the Denali is a must. Plan to take your time and look for the often abundant wildlife.

Mythical Riders, boy are they movin'. Thru dust, rocks & mud..............they're FUKENGRUVEN!
As I look back through the decades, theres a thought that prevails. We are born without a road map and a choice of many trails...........

Gracious House Lodge, Denali Hwy, AK

We were just at Gracious House and we wholeheartedly agree that Butch, Carol and Bill are great hosts. The camping was wonderful with great views of the surrounding mountains. Some of our group took a flight-seeing ride with Butch and could not stop talking about it. The breakfasts and dinners were delicious. And Carol even set out lunch fixings for everyone to pack a lunch for the day. The day ride options are plentiful. We did see wildlife nearby. While our group was in, there was a group of hunters too. The generator room is a great place to dry your gear after practicing water crossings BTW this is a great place in winter, as Gracious House Lodge is a great place for snowmobiling adventures too.
