AL Boy's Strom South Mississippi

7/22/11

Last week Nanohiccup (NH) posted on ADV Regional forum of a ride get together in South Mississippi. NH and I have ridden together quite a lot and have similar riding styles, bikes, and attitude, plus, we both wanted to get out of town for the weekend. I called NH and asked what details he had in mind?

NH- “ I am supposed to meet some ADVers at 8:00 in Pascagoula, MS, then some more ADVers for lunch somewhere, then, ride some more, spend the night somewhere, ride some more, ride home.”

Me- “ Sounds like a perfect plan! You know the forecast for rain is about a million percent and when it isn’t raining it will be 100 degrees with 96% humidity? “

NH- “ So? “

Me- “ See ya at 0730 “

I wake up and turn on the Weather Channel. I see a radar image of storms covering South Mississippi. Well at least it is only 85 degrees and 90% humidity! I then ride and meet up with NH.

Me- “ Hi. You going to put on any raingear? It’s raining over in Mississippi.”

NH- “ No, It’s not raining now, and it’s not that far.”

Me- “ I am putting mine on and I am not stopping later for you to put yours on. “

NH- “ Wimp”

Me- “ Dry whimp. Let’s ride. “

We then ride the 40 miles, in the rain, to Pascagoula Ms for the first meet and greet.

Hmmm nobody is here?!? It is only mildly flooding. I ask NH if we have the right exit? He say’s “ I am pretty sure this is where we are supposed to meet.” We then confirm we are in the right place so we wait.

NH confirming place and contact info.

Nobody shows up in the torrential rain.

Me- “ Whatcha want to do now? “

NH- “ Where is the rain? “

Me- “ Everywhere along the coast “

NH- “Let’s go North.”

We then started our ride North thru Ms, when this suicidal wabbit darted out and tried to kill itself under NH tires. The attempt failed. I am coming at a high rate of speed on wet pavement so the wabbit knows he has another opportunity.

Here is my rule for small squishy critters that want to commit suicide....do nothing....no brake, no speed change, no change in direction, nothing. 187 out of 231 times it will be a miss.

Hari Kari committing wabbit

Before I get posts about the rabbit on the double line, that is where it flopped and died not where I hit it. It was a quick death!

NH coming to see if anything could be salvaged for dinner, it couldn’t.

Quick stop in Bendale, MS. The rain has followed us North.

Sorry for the blurry pics. I don't know what happened

I didn’t. They have the best onion rings I have ever had!

I did not get a picture od every one for some reason so if Eeore or Mister Bill are reading this feel free to post.

We left Osyca with myself, NH, and Eeore heading north into.....more rain

Eeore grew up in this area so he guided us around for awhile.

Eeore and NH in front of old building

It was raining, the road was wet, so, lets try some riding pictures

This was the first time I have tried to attempt taking pictures while riding. It is hard! My hat is off to all who accomplish this without ending up like previous wabbit

Anyhoo.. we continued on

lame picture taking

Eeore following behind

NH in front

Meh not bad

We ended up in Montecello, Ms. This is where Eeore left us and went home to Jackson. NH and I continued south to see the Red Bluffs.

Montecello

A funny thing happened in Montecello.

NH pulled into a Sonic for a chocolate fudge sundae. While eating the sundae we were solicited by some big chocolate women in fishnet stockings. No pictures because I was afeered. If anyone wants a hooker and ice cream for $5.00 the Sonic in Montecello is your place. Don't forget you heard it here .

Well alrighty then.....time to go! The good news is it stopped raining!

We high tailed it to Red Bluff.

Nice road!

Deep too

We then made our way to Hattiesburg Ms. for the night.

Thanks for posting your report. I have enjoyed reading it.
It was a fun ride, even though it rained.
You hit the Wabbit, thats funny.
I saw DavidQ, a Jackson rider, hit a Armodillo, on gravel, riding his GS1200. It didn't kill the booger, but as I rode by, his little feet were kicking, he was like WTF
I must say when you guys plan to ride, seems like nothing will stop you.

Hi RB!
Hmmmm, The longest words I know are Nanohiccup and Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Riding with Nanohiccup is Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. There ya go, two big words in one sentence.

Nice report, Billy. I was hoping to ride down and meet y'all but between the weather and an ever growing honey-do list, I chose the honey-do's.
