I know that is an aftermarket headlight, but I have seen this '82 model with a red headlight cover. Was that cover on the US models - or is it just one of the vulnerable parts on the bike? I have done multiple searches but none have come up, though I see them in the pictures of the bikes- like this one.
![]() I guess they might have added the headlight cover after 82 but I didnt think they continued the 500 after that year but I may be wrong.

I've seen pics of bikes with those number plates as well. If you are wanting one I wish you luck finding one. I'm going to say they where a stock option but I'm not sure. E-bay may be your friend here. I looked for one when i first got my XL but gave up. I went with the aftermarket light because the stock one sucks. i wanted to be able to see at night and the aftermarket one was on the XR i got the parts from.

I ride a bullet. A 2 wheeled, multiple-explosion powered machine with enough moving parts to remove entire fingers. Surfaces hot enough to cook flesh.
