Question Rafting the New River

I'll be taking a trip with a friend to West Virginia this August and was wondering if anybody has had any experience with white water rafting and could suggest an outfitter and campground. Thanks.

I have kayaked on the New and the Gauley. Class VI River Runners is the premier Outfitter/Guide in the area. They can also tell you where to camp. I recommed the Gauley over the New if it is running. The Gauley has some truly serious whitewater... lots of legitimate class Vs. The New River is also nice, and is by no means a boring run. Have fun.

I posted this before, but it's not here now. I've used The rivermen quite a few times. Never had a bad experience unless you count that one time we lost a raft and a couple of people had to walk/limp out.

I'm a kayak paddler, so you won't find me in a rubber ducky, but here's a link to info in WV; http://www.wvwhitewater.com/.

If you wait till August, the New River will be really low, and the rafts will be so numerous, you'd be able to walk down the river jumping from raft to raft. Go in May or early June, then the river is more likely to be at a decent level.
Personally, I like 4-5 ft on the Fayette Station Gauge, that's 10,000 CFS (cubic feet per second, a measure of volume passing a given point), unless it's a rainy summer, August is likely to be 0 to -1 ft, less than 3000 CFS, very boring in a raft, at least in my opinion.

Any way, have fun

Yur confusion is because there were two identical threads in different forums. You posted on one. Then, you must have come back and opened the other and did not see yur post so you posted again. After that, I combined the two threads. ….See, so simple

Did the upper and lower Gauley. Awesome, 5 class 5's. Used a company called Drift a Bit. http://www.driftabit.com/

Anybody else thinking what I'm thinking? We need an ADV weekend raft & ride! Perfect place to ride to- and some great fun to be had on the river. I'm thinking May 14th is looking good~

Sounds like a good idea to me, although that date is too close to the Hot Springs extravaganza for me. July or August would suit my demanding schedule better.
