Good writeup, Bill.
Why use big words when any diminutive utterance will suffice?

Thanks for sharing this all Bill. It's really great to get the inside perspective.

O.K., I'll say it...

NEXT YEAR? It's never too early to plan.

I'd cash in my 401k to go and crew for ya!

See you at Sandblast!

He's obviously a poser - he planned to ditch on day 2 so he could get a cheap ticket to machu and hang with the GF.

Now that we know he's a poser who can't even ride more than one "real" stage of Dakar, I wonder who it really was riding that 'Priller that kicked Jonah and Embro in the Sandblast???? I bet it was that Crankshaft guy.....

I'm hoping by now your not as down as you seemed a few posts earlier. When talking about things in addition to this not working out for you it made me think of another instance...08 maybe? You and a friend were riding, a gate decided to "slow him down" and I flew in there in a work capacity. We hadn't met yet but talked about it when I came to one of the 2day classes. I'd chatted with him later (via ADV) and he mentioned he'd had some rough patches in the past but had "come around" and is obviously back in the saddle. You were there to help him out and take care of things so he could work on healing up.
Now it's your turn to be helped/encouraged. Yes a major dissapointment, who wouldn't feel the same? There's always next year and I bet you'll have a much easier go of it should you decide to try it again!

Thanks for taking the time to do the write up of day one. Really great to get a feel for what it is like. I drive cross country frequently and when ever I see the lengths that you guys had to travel each day I am in awe of your mental and physical toughness. It really is amazing and I hope you are intending to go back next year.

Thanks for taking us on your journey.
