Question VT to OK on a DRZ

I'm actually living in Quebec but Vermont is 30 mins far.

Destination : Tulsa, Oklahoma

Bike : DRZ400S with a good gel pad and windshield

Time : 8-10 days
To go : 3-4 days
1 day off in Tulsa
Return : 5-6 days

When : October 2011

Roads wanted :
To go : more or less straight, but avoiding big highway (but I can handle some).
Return : The most beautiful roads and places including gravel roads for the time I have. (5-6 days)

I have the stock 10L fuel tank. I'll need to stop fueling every 100 miles more or less. Should I care a gas can ? I prefer not.

No tent, I'll sleep in a motel with my bike inside the room like that guy

I ride motorcycle since 1 year. This will be my first big adventure (I did 3 days one time).
It will be a solo ride.

Here's a recent picture of my bike

My last adventure (Quebec BackCountry) :

Is it a good idea to go that far considering the time I have ?

I need some suggestion of roads and places to go.

What I need to know ?

Thanks

Bonjour mon ami;

Why, oh why do you want to ride to Oklahoma? Other than a few interesting spots here and there it's going to be a long, boring ride. For sure there are some interesting back roads but it would take several life times to get there that way.

Not trying to flame you or Oklahoma ( I'm there on business on a regular basis and it is in fact ok ) but given where you live and the time frame indicated that would be the last place I'd go for a ride.

Bonjour à toi

Tulsa is just a destination because I have friends living there I want to visit.

But yeah I plan to go in Vermont in some one day rides in the next weeks and months. I will have a lot of time to ride this fall.

Is the road so bad TO oklahoma ? Maybe I should get there by plane if it's the case.

Visiting friends is of course important, I understand but man that's a long ride on a DRz, about 2700km according to Google. And that's taking the most direct route.

My 2 cents worth; it is probably cheaper to fly given the cost of tires, hotels, gas, meals on the road and so forth. Flights out of Burlington will be cheaper and easier then Montreal these days, I've done it both ways.

Another option would be to meet your friend in Chicago, which is just a 2 hour flight from Burlington or Montreal and 2 hour flight from Oklahoma, and take the train downtown. Hotels are typically much cheaper there on the weekend and it's a cool town.

For dirt road touring Vermont and Quebec are tough to beat with seemingly unlimited miles of interesting dirt roads. IMHO you have to go a long ways to match the riding we have here in the North East.

Bon Chance
