Yeah, and the way much of this thread has gone I'd be very, very hesitant to admit that I've been an educator (teacher and administrator) for over 25 years. I hear and read so much trash talk every day about "teachers" and "schools" that I'm amazed anyone stays in the profession in the U.S. Living and working as a non-immigrant visa holder (which makes your status in a country legal) in South America, Asia and North Africa for most of the time I've been an educator spoiled me completely. Parents in those countries actually still respect educators and do a great deal to support and work with the schools in a positive way. They teach their children that education is a good thing and make sure they work hard to achieve their very best.

...but I've said too much already. Now I'll shrink back into anonymity.

Thank you for your service as an educator. My sister just retired after 30 years as a teacher. She had the chance to move from first grade several times, but always chose to stay with this group. She said she really felt like that was where she needed to be. Guess after dealing with me and my two brothers all her life she had plenty of experience in 1st grade mentality.

When I was a kid, if you got in trouble at school that resulted in a spanking, you also got "in trouble" when you returned home and dad found out. Now teachers get nasty phone calls and complaints to the school board when they try to keep a child in line. I have nothing but respect for teachers and what they do for no money.

The document in Post #195 was originally developed for you, wasn't it?

Thanks Trophy! It's a great privilege to be able to work with young people. It's good to have your thinking challenged by young, uncluttered and generally unbiased minds where the main concern is whether something is fair or not. Kids have taught me a lot.

First grade teachers are by far the most important educators. They lay the foundation for success and attitude for every other year. Most of my experience was with middle and high school students, but as a head of school I spent a lot of time both observing and substitute teaching in first grade classrooms. There is so much going on in those classrooms every second of the day that, for the life of me, I can't figure out how those teachers can still talk and walk at the end of the day. Half a day subbing in the first grade left me almost comatose. First grade teachers are (I don't use this word very often) AWESOME!

I'm changing the tone here...

I love Mississippi. Have lived here all my life and we have some great people and places. The Natchez Trace is one of the best cruising roads in the country. The scenery is relaxing and the lack of sharp curves is part of the peaceful mannerisms of the Natchez Trace. Add to that the historic side trips and you have the makings of a great fall or spring ride.

What are some of your favorite places in MS, AR, OK....?

One of my favorite areas in Arkansas is around Heber Springs... I have not been there on two wheels but spent a few awesome days there camping and fly fishing many years ago! Oklahoma I only remember driving through so no particular place really sticks out...

I've ridden NW AR a good bit and have really enjoyed it. I haven't yet had the opportunity to ride off road, but I am looking forward to that day. I have a pretty good buddy in Greenbriar who is an excellent guide!

Of course, TN, AL, north GA, NC and VA all have fun riding too!

We used to rent a cabin every year in the Ponca area - cannot find a bad road to ride there. Look forward to riding some dirt up there after following the NWA-BS, SLAP, and ARR threads.

Yes, that area looks like a ton of fun! Another place I think is fantastic is the state or national park near the Buffalo River. I keep saying I'm going to drag the family there, but we haven't done it yet.
