First valve adjustment for me today

My thanks to this write up: http://paochow.com/forum/index.php?topic=45.0

'08 990 9,500 miles. I'm lucky to have a great friend next door. Mech engineer(with sense), woods rider, and former Kawasaki shop owner. Having him there for moral support is so nice. He brought the exact tools I didn't have without even mentioning it to him. Local shop an hour away actually had shims we needed in stock. Bought a tank bag from them to thank them.
I owe him!

Now that it's buttoned up I can say all went well!

Valve ?'s

I'm going to pull the rocker covers off my 07 adv s and just wanted to ax if the procedure was straight forward, or are there some weird steps ktm put in there to detour the faint of heart from the job.
The dealer just checked the valves, and I plan to (discount) daaable check there work for piece of mind(trust issues).
I plan on ordering the manual, but did you have a manual and did you encounter any rough spots along the way?
I had to adjust all 16 valves on my 08 concours during the winter, so was just wondering how many valves on your 990 were out of wack?
. And any pointers please and Thank you.

Follow this write up below. I ignored most steps until it came to throttle body removal. Only minor problems I had was getting the throttle body out and making a crank lock out bolt (but you can buy the ktm bolt for this if you are uncomfortable doing that. )
Putting bike back together is worse than doing the valves!

All but one valve was out of spec. But none of them out much at all. And they were out on the loose side which I thought was strange, but...
Just have owners manual not a shop manual.

I'm guessing here...maybe using plain English will get you plain and probably more responses.

Only one word in there that could be misconstrued if you axed me :) But us first timers need to stick together to help one another because the older inmates have forgotten what it's like being there. I've asked a few questions only to get a smart ass answer like your's.

Mine was not an answer...more like a tip. I thought I restrained myself quite well...so back to your topic. I'm at the first valve adjustment stage on my bike as well and considering doing it myself. My question is, after doing so, should I take it to the dealer, and would he do it, to do any reset/updates to the ECU? Can I do it myself with TuneECU?

Depends on how comfortable you are with electronic tuning. To some it's like voodoo, to others simple as starting a bike.

First valve adjustment for me today

Did you reset/update your ECU, if so what? Or does the 15 min idle take care of things?

Have not done any Tune ECU but I wouldn't be uncomfortable with it as I use a cable and software to diagnose and fix/change things on my car.
15 minute reset seems to help the snatch...some.

Ok, if you are joking, cool.
If your serious, I asked some good ?s, and you didn't answer one, but instead Capt. obvious, you tell me that in most new bikes, like the lc8 there are no rockers! All I can say is, "der". You knew what I ment, sorry for the
Comic relief with ax'd, rocker, and discount daaable check( Thank you Aran Rogers).
If there's no time for silly references, than I say there's no time for silly responses to good questions.
Using plain English, now that's a good one too.
Why so serious guys.

Hope you didn't include me in that... Lol. I don't know what the other guy's beef is. Just ask questions and I'll try to help with my limited knowledge. I'm going thru the learning curve with you.

hey advill, is that a reference to your drug of choice for adventure riding?
You were very helpful, and I think some veterans enjoy the odd jab at rookey Idiots like me.
the valve reference You sent was great -perfect for my needs thanks alot.
the dealer says check the map sensors for blockage/clogs may cause issues on the 990 but I think its shitty maps from the gitgo.
the map sensors exist at the end of the vacuum line that starts on the intake tubes/manifold/thing..
thanks for the help guys.

Never mind, it doesn't further the conversation.
