I'm from Canada, in Southern Wisconsin tonight, headed for West Virginia/Virginia over the next few days, can any of you give suggestions
for places to see and do?

Thanks!

Yes. US 50 in WV to US 220. Take 220 South down into VA. Explore 220, 250, 39, Bath County, Lake Moonaw. The entire area is beautiful.

Thanks!

For the reply...I'm as lost about that area as most of the riders in the Canadian regional threads seem to be. (see my Northern Riders sign in thread in the Canada forum)

All new to me which is kinda fun.

If you come into Virginia on 220 from WV At Covington VA take 64/60 west over to 311 south.
311 will take you to Paint Bank, VA. Stop at the restaurant there and get a Buffalo burger or steak.
Continue on on 311 across Potts Mountain, stop and take pictures, continue on to New Castle VA and there take
42 south or west, oh heck, take a right. Follow 42 to Newport and catch 460. If this sounds like a plan so far email me and I'll give you some more routes from there. Have a good trip! Robert rockingmremuda@swva.net

oh yea, I live in the area and may have time to meet up for a bit of a guided ride if the timing is good. ;) Work sure gets in the way..

We just got as far as Ohio today, going through Chicago and a few accidents on the road really slowed us down.

Thank you for your replies...should be there tomorrow!

Do you have a GPS to help Navigate? Do you want great roads, see historic sites or crowded tourist spot? City or rural. Post a few likes and help will help.

If you are looking for more that nice roads, I enjoyed the caverns when I was there last. (many years back). A quick search can show you the way.

Not sure where you are in Ohio, if near Columbus follow Rt 33 to Rt 50. 50 is four lane until Clarksburg, where it gets fun.

Rt 50 to Rt 250, 219 or 220 then south.
Rt 33 in WV, over into VA. Fantastic road.

You will run across quite a few historic sites, and some inexpensive lodging.

15 best roads

Go here and if you are in the vicinity of ride #15 it's probably one of the best. I have ridden most of these but last week I did #15 and its well worth the ride.
I ride a 2002 GL1800 and my buddy rides a Valkerie and powering through the curves is unbelievable.

You're right next door to the New River Bridge. Continue east on Rt 60 then south on Rt 19 towards Fayetteville. Just before the turnoff for the visitor center/overlook (on the north end of the bridge), turn out CR 82 east toward Lansing, then follow the narrow 1-lane road down, and down, and down under the bridge to the river. Good photo ops on the middle of the old bridge. Oh yeah, the visitor center is pretty cool, too.

After that, lots of great riding east and north/east. A few suggestions:

1) Rt 60 east to Charmco, then north on Rt 20 and east on Rt 39 toward Marlinton. Before Marlinton, take Rt 150 north around the Cranberry Wilderness.

2) From Marlinton, Rt 39 east to Rt 28 north (or go a little farther and head north on Rt 92 instead - they both join up north a bit). At Rt 66, detour west a few miles to Cass Railroad. Back to Rt 28/92 north, stop in at Green Bank Observatory. Nice visitor center and free tour.

3) Continue Rt 28 north about 35 miles to Judy Gap, and continue on Rt 28/33 toward Seneca Rocks. Just 2 or 3 miles north of Judy Gap, turn at the Gateway Restaurant (good eats!) and go up to Spruce Knob, the highest point in WV. Back down to Rt 28/33 north, continue up to Seneca Rocks. Good visitor center. There is a good National Forest campground about a mile south of Seneca Rocks on Rt 28/33 called Seneca Shadows.

4) While you're in that part of WV, you may want to check out Dolly Sods Road (gravel road about 30 miles long between Cabins and Rt 32/Canaan Valley), Davis (Hellbender's Burritos and Blackwater Falls), Smoke Hole Road (Cabins south to Upper Tract on Rt 220), and..... the list goes on.

It's hard to find a bad/boring road around Seneca Rocks.

Wherever you decide to go tomorrow, ride safe and have a good time. Looking forward to a ride report with photos, yes??
