PCH and more for a rookie...

Hey guys looking for some tips from the local's to guide me while I'm traveling through your area. Been riding 4 years and this summer I plan to ride to the 4 Corners to meet up with about 40+ other KLR riders.

Before I get there though I want to to leave about 2-3 weeks prior to enjoy California and the desert. I'll be departing from nearly Vancouver BC. Never been to California before. I want to take Hwy 101 and 1 as much as possible. I've also read about highway 36 in the northern half that leads to, I believe, Redding?? Other than that I'm fairly clueless.

Links to other threads are helpful too. Matter of fact this guy started one in trip planning recently that's pretty much the same stuff I'm curious about. But I took it one step further and figured to post in regionals for better help.

Thanks in advance. See you this summer
