News about the Acerbis DR650 tank:

With numerous backorders for the 6.6 gallon tank due out here in a few weeks, we regret to inform you that Acerbis published this capacity in correctly in their catalog, to its dealers and of course their customers.

The correct capacity will be 5.3 gallons and will fit the 1996-2012 models.

We are really bummed about this as this was our idea and thought for the perfect size tank for the DR650. Acerbis took this on just on our word but came up a bit short.

Hopefully we can get one made in the 6-7 gallon range soon!

Ben

Well, I'm a positive thinker. 5.3 gallons is only .4 or so better than the IMS, but the photos I've seen show dual petcocks on the Acerbis. Is that correct?

If so, one does not have to lay the bike over on it's side to get the last fuel as with IMS.

So depending on how this impacts the price shaking out the Acerbis might still be a strong competitor.

i found my IMS (justgas tanks purchased!) has expanded to 5.3G and i've run it dry with a dribble of gas so all the gas was moving over to the left. i figure the acerbis might expand some too. since the price is so close to ims, if i was doing it again, i'd buy the acerbis.

I looked today and the price for the Acerbis is at $270. That's just at $27 more than the posted price for IMS.

For $27 difference I can go with the Acerbis and be happy even if the capacity is not what was originally anticipated.

Yes we were able to talk Acerbis down on the Retail price of the tank so they could still sell this after ordering hundreds of these in to the USA. We are still working on getting someone to make a 6.6 gallon tank for this bike...Stay tuned

Now don't tease... You mean I still can't buy a tank in the hopes of this mythical 6.6 tank springing into being from the collective desires of advriders! Real potential for this to happen?

What is the status on the Safari 3.7 gallon tanks for the Yamaha WR250R? I tried to order one last month and was told there could be an issue with the fuel pump not fitting. Is there still an issue or a time frame for getting the correct tanks in stock?

Thanks!

We finally had a chance to try installing the electronic fuel pump into one of our tanks here and found that the pump truly will not fit into the tank because of the vacuum operated Mikuni Pump being to far inward on the tank. The was a flaw in the manufacturing process when the last run of tanks were made in Australia, there is no way to fix this, we just have to wait on the next batch of tanks to come over. We are hoping to have more available in the next few months and to any of you that really want to get one of these we can always have one drop shipped to you directly from Australia.

Drop ship to USA would be $138.50 for shipping.

Drop ship to Canada / Mexico / South America would be $174.50 for shipping.
