East of eden's fires
EAST of EDEN'S FIRES
So here are just a few pics of the recent monster forest fire in the Jemez Mountains. It burned for over a month and was the largest wild land forest fire in New Mexico history. Over 156,000 acres burned. Some of the trails and forest roads were very familiar and close to me and now those areas have been burned. Many homes burned and it was and is a great tragedy. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() A month after the monster Jemez fires have been put out, the tragedy continues... The non-profit "Wildlife Center", just south of Espanola, NM in La Puebla/Arroyo Seco, has been helping and saving wildlife for decades. Now with the year-long drought and the huge forest fires, they have MANY types of animals in their great care. Numerous fawns, starving or injured bears, birds of prey, coyotes, racoons, turtles, snakes, you name it, it's like Noah's Ark, but many more than just two of each species. They just can't say NO. The Federal and State Game and Fish departments, BLM, US Forest Service, US Park Service, and the Navajo Nation, take animals to the Wildlife Center for their wildlife veterinary expertise and care. Regular people bring in abandoned, injured or starving animals knowing they will be well cared for and released back into the wild if possible. Right now the Wildlife Center is being pressed hard to keep up with the unusual demand. They rely on donations of money and supplies. (Bears love dog food and currently they are going thru 400 pounds per week.) When I was there, Tuesday 8/16/11, they were expecting their 23rd bear to be dropped off for care. You can donate on the website or in person or bring in any kind of bagged dry dog food, they also feed the bear cubs "puppy chow". Check out their website linked below... http://www.thewildlifecenter.org/index.php Can you help? Nothing but GOOD will happen.... ![]() That's a good Human, GOOD HUMAN!
