here is another one ask any questions. The racks are happy trail racks and the side cases are 1500 pelicans and the top box is a 1520 pelican. the overall width is 33" the same as my pro taper bars.

~ 9.5". Not too bad I guess. They supposedly hold up pretty well in a get-off - which *is* a concern of mine.

I know that the Pelicans are pretty much bullet proof. May look into those as well.

The pic that is shown on the happytrails site includes a top rack which I'm not sure if that is sold separately.

Yeah, it's the SU rack from Happy Trail. No problems/modifications in mounting along with the cycleracks rack. If anything, I think both racks do a pretty good job at reinforcing the subframe, but adding some braces or gussets is something I wouldn't mind doing in the future.

I had to modify my rear rack it is one of the ebay ones no name brand. It took about 1/2 an hour to modify. It now bolts to the hole right behind the rack bolt. Once occupied by the turn signals. I have yet to remount those.

Decided that life is too short to spend 20+ hours whipping some 30 year old .gov food boxes into shape to stuff gear in. Ordered these last night. http://klr650.com/aluminumboxes.htm

They are a tad under $300 delivered. They are lockable, have spiff bungee hooks already mounted on top and are angled at the bottom. I will have to work up a mount system to get them on the SU racks or pony up another $50 or so for the HT mounts.

Dirt Bagz

My wife got me a set of Dirt Bagz (Ranger) for Christmas. Looking forward to getting the bike back together and for the snow to melt.

You wouldn't happen to have a templet of the plates you made that you'd be willing to share? Looks like a really sanitary job you did and should solve any "weak subframe" issues the XRL has for good!

Let us know of any "fitment" issues you might have putting the bike back together with the plates installed. I would like to do this to my bike even with just a rack installed.

Take care.

I wish I saw this sooner. That is a smokin deal!! The only thing is that they may be too large. Good luck and post some pics when you get them installed.
