The Fleurieu Peninsular Ridges (clockwise) Ride ........... "anti-clockwise"

I'll be leaving BP Belair 8.30am Saturday 27th August 2011 heading in a southerly direction over open undulating flowing, sometimes tight & winding, sometimes steep & hilly dirt roads, with some dry weather only tracks & a few fire trails thrown in with over 90% on dirt roads.
(unfortunately it won't be suitable for sidecars as they fall apart on my rides ) Hi 3legs

I expect a fairly long day in the saddle with planned refueling at Normanville & Mt Compass (as a gauge, a standard new DRZ400 managed the distance between fuel stops OK on the clockwise ride.)
If you are curious, you are welcome to follow an ol' fella as he fumbles his way 'round a map on the run, ever looking for photo opportunities

Let's hope for good weather
The Excitement is Growing:

Quote:
The Recce

With yesterday's irresistable weather, I made a last minute decision to do a recce to check on some of the planned "special" stages & confirm they still had their "Wow" factor.

All I can say, if I do say so myself is ............................... wow!.... wow! ..... wow! ..... & an even bigger ..... WOW!
We sure have some spectacular countryside down south.

The f st flowing roller coaster roads were grippy; the tight sections, lush & green & the fantastic views were out of this world

Fingers crossed for similar weather.

Oh! .................. it'll be well worth bringing a camera, as I will be pausing at a few locations to soak up what the environment can truely offer

It'll be a big day, but well worth it.

Really looking forward to it, cya there!

Cheers
The Catering:

Quote:
Rest assured "MB" has not forgotton the starving masses ( "MB" has often been miss-quoted in the past as standing for "Mobile Bakery" ) Hey Trev, you may want to reconsider coming along .............................. you should see the size of the new recently renovated ji-normeous Yankalilla Bakery's display cabinets. ................ decisions! ..... decisions!

"Settling of the dust" rituals (regardless of the weather) are a usual formality on rides I've been on in the past
The expected Thrills;

Quote:
A guided tour around one of SA's other "Spectacular Riding Jewels"
Yeah Sol, this is one of the rollercoasters

Safe riding

Cheers
The Final Recce;

Quote:
With today's lovely weather, I couldn't resist just checking a few other planned roads too like these

But don't be worried, they are sooooo much fun, I can't wait to ride them again next weekend
The Late Breaking News;

Quote:
As an added bonus, I've just received permission to ride through a private farm at Parawa with absolutely fantastic views overlooking The Pages islands in Backstairs Passage, ideal for a photo shot or two, thanks to the efforts of our recent new riding buddy: many thanks to KymW (Aprilia).
It may not be large, but it sure is spectacular all the same

Please repect this opportunity & only follow his lead, as there are sensitive plants around the property.
This ride is getting better & better all the time. Bring it on
Cheers
The Route;

The Report;

To be completed when I get back ........ cya

as you can probably tell, I woke up early & got bored.

If others get back before me, you are welcome to add your photos etc, here

Seems 20 of you lot actually had confidence in where I thought I was going today

As we meandered down some truely lovely hills roads

and it wasn't long we were hi-tailin' through some great tracks with some highly anticipated great video action to follow shortly.

and onto one of many ridges with their fantastic panoramas

Along the way we found a little playground

Unfortunately with over 530kms worth of fuel on board, MikeF couldn't defy gravity even by flapping his wings

Oh No ! ....................... my baby's broken

One casualty was 1WD's chain, luckily it didn't lock the rear wheel as he was wheelstanding at the time.

The problem was soon found

and he waisted no time in measuring up his projected jump height before he had the rear wheel lighting up again .

So close to the bakery in the distance, but still so far

Twisted1 was desperately trying to kickstart his great little XR to get there asap to feed his appetite

Finally our hunger was sated

Although no lights were flashing at the time that I could see, it was a pleasure to meet Pejie & the Seamstress (of Steel Pony Motorcycle Luggage fame) while we waited for the food to settle. They have seen the light or greener pastures of the Fleurieu & are moving from WA soon.

After lunch emooz took us on a "local knowledge" track on our way to the much anticipated Parawa farm, unfortunately there are no photos as it was very steep & rocky yet inspiringly challenging for the big TDM, but enormous fun for the nimble babies,

As we entered the farm (thanks again KymW for arranging it) approx 50 kangaroos boundered away before the "Photo Shoot".

Kym then led us on a tour of the property, carefull not to damage any significant plants that have been found on the property.

............................... and through some narrow fenced creek crossings

with DRBlue, our Sweep for the day following.

From there, the rollarcoaster tracks were just that enthralling (therefore no pics) as they meandered through some absolutely fantastically spectacular scenery, refueling again at Mt Compass and a quick debrief at Meadows
Great day on the trails with good friends. Cya again soon.

Cheers

Nice one MB

1WD, your rear axle is back to front, thats why the nut worked loose. It should be pushed thru the swingarm/wheel on the left, nut on the right. that way the rotating force will keep it tight.

Twisted opps

Was following Twisted, we XR's have to stick together...anyhow he had a rear brake lockup (common problem) coming into a downhill left hander & I was there with the cam on. He got it under control but it could have been worse. Well saved Andrew

Might edit more video tomorrow night & post up

Cheers Terry

Top effort Terry

Now the truth comes out about what really happens behind me ................. no more of this bull shit about

" Ah ! I had a great time .... the riding is easy, no real dramas"

Glad there were no injuries.
I believe our farm host had a close look at the dirt a few times during the day too

One of them was actually caught on camera, check out the last 3 seconds of the Twisted's video above.

Definitely a 9 outa 10 for style

Cheers

He did mentioned something about a rogue rut somewhere, maybe that was No 3 for the day.

Must have been a good rut, as just passed KymW, it tried to throw Twisted1 into the tree too
