New Pair of Shoes

Hello Mark
I hope you two are doing ok, sorry the weather is not co-operating but it add to the adventure i guess. The pics so far are great, such wonderfull scenery that you guys get to experience first hand. Wish I could be there with you guys. Let me know if you want me to get a tire for you for your return home. I had mine mounted last Friday and got to try them out on the long weekend. The GS likes to dance around a bit on those Kenda big blocks on pavement but don't feel to bad on gravel and hardpack. Safe journey's my friend.
Rob

Hey Rob, looks like I'll be in to see you shortly.

just under 6000kms, not too bad for an inexpensive tire, about the same as I get on my street bike.
funky front tire wear

Thursday morning the weather was much better so we made good time through Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York, crossing into Canada at 1,000 Islands at 5:30pm. Having come this far and only 3-4 hours to go, we decided to head for home.

the last ferry of the trip, Port Henry crossing Lake Champlaine from Vermont to New York.

the ferry will be out of commission as soon as the bridge is complete

Owen and I had a fantastic ride completing the 6,000+km route in 12 days. Considering the down time due to weather, road damage and a day's sight seeing in Grosse Morne we made excellent time.
We had been advised to watch out for the trucks on the gravel sections. Our experience was thatb the truck drivers were very respectful of riders, slowing down on approach, moving over and waiving to us as we crossed paths. Even when we were passing drivers, they would pull over and give us room to pass by.
Too bad drivers in the city were not as courteous.
The road itself is for the most part in great shape, except for the section south of Port Hope Simpson which is very rough with deep potholes (BMW's have soft rims) and the sections of freshly graded loose gravel. The road is not as technical as it is grueling.
If you plan on doing the trip, do it soon. The road crews are paving it as fast as they can and plan to complete the entire route by 2014

Nice report, I'd love to do this route.

One question though - whats holding the rotopax mounts on to the gobi box? Are they reinforced at all?

just with large washers on the inside of the box, works very well and is very secure.
