Frozen and clean

Unfortunatly we all thought they would be here for 2 days and I was going to bring in the rest of the engine tomorrow but he is done and packing up.

Work has been demanding and I just finished a run of 2 weeks all 12hr days so precious little has been done, the time was used to order parts and take apart a few smaller pieces. Another week and I should get a life back.

Finally some decent results, I bet I have striped this thing 4 times if Ive done it once. Had to use a powder primer to stop the offgassing followed by the chrome powder, now I just have to reshoot a few of the scruffy pieces.

And the new parts are arriving daily, NOS 2nd over pistons and NOS foot peg rubbers.

Carb kit's, points, plugs and condenser

Thanks Brad, I'm trying

Spent a little time in the shop but just organizing a place for the dirty bikes for the winter, this is temporary to see if it will work out and it looks like if I lift them a foot it should be a go.

The mailman just keeps bringing those parts, wheel bearings & seals, fork seals and steering head bearings.

New seat cover

Now if I can just get some quality shop time.

Man, you are moving fast on that bike, you must already be getting some quality shop time!

I started the CB500 about the same time, and still picking on getting the engine out of the frame... you'll be done by the time I get the frame painted.

Looks like it's going to be atleast another 3 weeks before I can get real serious about this bike, work has been demanding and continues to be so for a while. Meanwhile I bought another distraction....

What a hoot that thing is

back in the shop, parts continue to arrive

the forks had some rust above the travel limit and I didn't want the expense of buying new ones

so I cleaned them up and powder coated them chrome.... that should stop further rust and that area hides behind the boots anyways

and a bit more powder coating, bar clamps in chrome and seat hinge in black

and forks legs in a color that is supposed to be Honda's gray, anyone care to comment on if it's a color match? I don't have anything to compare it to.

just noticed the fork boots I bought don't match, I should have know better as they were from Taiwan and I doubt the vendor will do anything about it. Old vs new

Thought I had a shot of the rusty old seat base but you are going to have to take my word for it.... it was in tough shape, after sandblasting the rust off, welding up the cracks and a shot of black powder

Good to see someone is enjoying the build Brad, sure is a lot quieter than the last one. Maybe I need to do another radical one.

I am enjoying it also, you sure got me thinking about a powder coating system!
I am restoring a 74 XL175K1 this winter, all you guys who are doing CL's are getting me interested in them.
I think I will be finding one for next years build.

Yep, the powdercoating has me intrigued also. And, I love the old 450's!

Great thread, cool bike and learned about a few new tricks, such as the ice blasting and home powder coat, great info!

Bake, I still have the 4 fingered socket you need for the ccrank nut and I think I have a pretty good engine drain plug. Let me now if you need them, I can put them in the mail to you.
