I headed north to the nearest border crossing. I slowed as I approached the entry point, and stopped face to face with a Canadian border guard.

Guard: Hello sir, and welcome to Canada.
Me: Thank you. May I proceed?
Perhaps. Before you may access our country, you need to correctly recite the lyrics to fellow Canadian Bryan Adam's classic rock hit, "Cuts Like a Knife."
What? You are kidding me, right?
Kidding? I don't know what you are talking a boot.
A boot? What does my footwear have to do with anything?
Please begin the lyrics sir, or turn your machine around and return the the USA.
I don't know the lyrics. But I can air drum Rush's "Tom Sawyer" to like 98% accuracy. Does that count?
Everyone in Canada can do that sir. It's part of the 6th grade proficiency exam.
Dammit. Well f*ck you and your stupid metric system then!

Canada. What kind of backwards country uses the metric system anyway? Dividing by 10? How ridiculous. Why can't they just add 1/8 to 35/64 like a real country. Idiots. I bet they are the only dumbwads that use metric anyway.
Hey - thanks! I must have missed your message during the holidays. I'm serious about daydreaming that little border scenario. Those were some loooooooooong boring days on the slab. My mind would wander all sorts of wierd places - I would have to write down the ideas when I stopped for lunch, etc.

Thanks for the feedback! It was difficult to find a new 'angle' to write a RR from. I figured my f*cked up sense of humor was a good place to start!

Thanks for the compliments! I was in my photo pile again, and came across this:

I think this was ND, highway day number 3. I had burned up the first tank of gas for the day, and looked down to see this at the gas station as I filled up. This was pretty disheartening to say the least!

That's a loooooooooong way with no turns!

Cannonshot's ride reports are like a 3 part mini series on the History Channel...your's was like watching one of the Chevy Chase "Vacation" movies.

No offense Cannonshot, you put together some EXCELLENT routes. I am always amazed by the amount of research you do before a ride.

Oh yeah! Killed some time at work. Looking forward to the lower half report. It's a great ride. Catch the Shadow of the Rockies trail heading back north for more non-slab traveling fun.
