Oh well, we found a place the day you bought the V-Strom that we coulda set-up camp and stayed for life in Ouray. Good times, bad times, Lord we had our share.

Some things I'll never forget. Thanks brother.
As I recall, it took us five days just to get out of Colorado! The thanks are all mine, my brudda. Epic memories. :-)

Fivestringman, your profile says you've got a wee Strom. Mine was the big block...

...and was physically too tall for me for any serious off-road stuff. Sure was a comfortable street bike, though.

Denise used to have an SV650...

...which was a truly fine motorcycle, one of the best either of us has ever ridden.

All of which is to say, I'm betting the 650 V-Strom is an excellent all-around motorcycle, kind of the best of both worlds. Looking forward to seeing it one of these days. :-)

You probably already know this but I'm pretty sure that the Bluefield train yard is the only gravity yard on the
east coast. It is the highest point on the N&S line. Basically its all downhill to Norfolk from there.

Thanks

Cool, I just got on here today as when it rains I am homesick for Bluefied. Did you see the old truck for sale in the lot next to the dealership. An old chevy that hadn't been touched since the 80s.

The only family I have up there (above ground that is) is my father in law

Roads up there are great, truly undiscovered by the motorcycle world. From where you took that pic it is 9 minutes to the top of East River mountain. I guess you went back to Tazewell and then to Marion, which is phenomenal. If you come back that way go from Tazewell down to War WV and into Mcdowell County WV. Roads are amazing no traffic. Poorest county in WV so don't plan on gourmet lunch. Then go up to Bluefield and 52 and side roads to roanoke, hit the PKway there.

Mark, I didn't know that; that's pretty cool! Have you ever browsed through Virginia Tech's railroad-related photographic imagebase? It's a stunning historical resource for railfans like you and me: http://imagebase.lib.vt.edu/browse.php?folio_ID=/trans

Thanks for riding along.

Haji, no, I totally missed the old truck for sale. Looks like I need to make another run up to Bluefield!

Thanks for posting the great photo of your father-in-law; he looks like a natural! Yeah, took Tazewell to Marion, then slabbed it from there as I was running out of day. What an awesome run over the mountains, and I pretty much had it to myself. I've yet to make it as far as War; sounds like I need to add it to the "to-do" list (maybe after I check out that old Chev for sale in Bluefield...........................)

Thanks for posting, and for riding along.

Just a quick trip, barely 24 hours there, the first time D 'n me had ever seen the Atlantic Ocean:

Prior: We detoured through Thomasville on our way down to North Myrtle Beach.
We hadn't been there five minutes before a freight came ripping through!

Hanging on to my hat against the considerable wind blast. Hard to see in the pic,
but I'm holding three new additions to my collection of BFN's. :-)
