I was standing on a low bridge over the river to shoot the next photographs. How low? So low you had to lie flat on your back to float under it! ![]() Fast Ferris screwed with this post 06-27-2012 at 01:48 AM |

I reached down and handed one of the boaters my card as he floated under the bridge, and told him to watch for their photos. Here he's kicked in the 'burners to catch up with the group: ![]() Thanks guys and gals!

06-23-2012: Saturday Slackin' ~ The End
One more view, this time from the Parkway near Cumberland Knob, looking out over the North Carolina Piedmont, almost home. It's been another great day in the wind. Hope y'all enjoyed the pix. ![]() |

Just when we think you couldn't possibly top the previous pics in this thread, there you go and do it...
BTW, has anybody else noticed the time of these last few postings? Just before 5:00 am? Dang, I thought I was the only one up at these God forsaken hours...that's dedication

Pretty happy with the sunrise pix, mostly 'cause it means I got a really good jump on the day. I cooked some of the pix in this batch pretty hard, just seeing what a little of this (or a lot of that) in post-processing would do. Some worked, some didn't, but it's all good: it was a full day wandering in the wind any way ya slice it. Re: our hours, Dnutz is right on the money: We w*rk a ton of them, and we're usually up pretty early. No rest for the wicked, I think the saying goes............................ Thanks for riding along, amigo. :-) |

06-24-2012: Rap's Ride
On Sunday me 'n D did it two-up all day (yes, it requires amazing stamina; we are strained professionals...). Primland almost didn't let us in, until we promised to spend some money at the bar. D hadn't seen the place before, and a slow-rolling tour of their digs would keep us up here in the mountains, which is very much where we want to be this time of year. We cheated and didn't stop at the bar and spend any money at Primland, but we did cleanly dissect their 10,000-acre estate on the RK, imagining what it would be like to be very, very rich and famous... We did a long-g-g-g, slow lap around Buffalo Mountain, past the Blacksnake Meadery and Foggy Ridge Cider, and quietly past Reverend Childress' most famous Rock Church. It's truly a thing of beauty, lovingly built with native stone by long-gone local hands, lasting testament to a very modest, divinely-powerful mountain man. Mostly we just puttered along the crest of the Blue Ridge today, with no particular destination in mind, following the front wheel, as JB2 calls it. Thanks, brother: It works every time. :-) By and by we ended up at Rap's Orchard Gap, at milemarker 193.5 on the Parkway. Rap's is open seven days a week, and has "Good Food, Gas, Beer, Live Entertainment, Souvenirs & Fun." We can attest that all of the above is true. :-):-) We only took a few pix on the day; I guess we were too busy savoring the ride to break out the cameras and actually do some w*rk. We did snap a few at Rap's, however. Hope y'all enjoy. ![]() Fast Ferris screwed with this post 06-27-2012 at 06:25 PM |
