...and this is the view from the corner above, looking back the way we just came. Lovely, no?

This is a low dam on the New River, near Mouth of Wilson, Virginia. We've had a ton of rain this summer, and the New is chocolate-brown
and angry.

We're almost home. We've successfully dodged rain ever since we left Independence this morning, although it's been plenty close all day.

We had to pull up radar again in Galax, to decide which of our options for getting back to Fancy Gap was best.

We settled on the diagonal, neatly slicing yet again between two cells, only to encounter fog so thick on the Parkway
I needed the GPS to tell me where to turn into our driveway (just kidding, but just barely...), as the last light of the day faded into night.

DNutz had an ice chest full of beer waiting for us, and supper in the crockpot. We knocked back some chewy brews,
fired up a rerun of the MotoGP from Laguna on the DVR, filled our bellies, and laughed at our collective good fortune.

We are ADV'ers.

Ferris Rides Again!

I remember a couple of weeks on the road with you that ended with us dodging hurricane Ivan. We didn't have as much luck navigating to drier areas. I remember leaving from Hillbilly's place and we could literally see the creek rising. Good times.

I've been to Hungry Mother but sheesh, that was maybe 25 years ago. Due for another week or two on the BRP/Appalachian Mnts. Thanks for tugging the adventure strings.

You mean THIS Ivan?

Well, we couldn't ride around Ivan, but we did a damn good job of running from Ivan for several days.

Great Photos From the Past!

Yes it was "that Ivan" and yes Hillbilly pussied out the day we left in a downpour. You wouldn't expect that from a guy who had a screaming yellow land yacht, would ya?

That will happen my friend but I still got my nose to the "home-remodel grindstone". Hacking out plans for another adventure with GMJ & Reep this fall. Sumptin' about diggin' dino bones out west in the Black Hills. I'm planning for an EARLY October visit to Fancy Gap and Mom's. I'll be in the F150 but I know of a little Ninja that I could prolly ride in between cigars and tales.

Another here who is glad to see this thread get bumped. Here's to hoping you find the motivation once again to share our part of the world through your eyes as this thread truly is the best photo montage of far southwest Virginia that I have come across to date.

Muchas gracias, amigo. Great to see your name show up here. Hope all is well down your way. Thanks for the props; I'm presently out of checks, but as soon as the ink dries on a new supply I'll float one in your general direction.

I just checked the memory card in my camera; prior to last Saturday it'd been four and a half months since I took a moto-related photo. Dayum!

Here are a few shots from that ride, dated 03/16/2013, during a very cold and unusually dry day on the Parkway:
