Mount St. Helens Spring 2011

I'm "cheating" in a couple of regards with this next series of photos; please don't tell Gadget Boy.......

I drove the limo out to Washington State and spent a couple of months with MaB after she was diagnosed.
On the way there I took the opportunity to pay my Dad a visit up at Mount St. Helens - per his wishes,
we scattered his ashes in the crater after he passed away in 1987.

I happened to fall in behind a group of riders heading up the west side of the volcano,
and snapped some photographs for posterity. It was a gorgeous late Spring afternoon on the mountain,
and I was plenty envious of my brothers and sisters in the wind.

I've founnd George Taylor Rd, but cannot id the old bridge on the aerial photos... That said, I might just have to make a trip up there and see if this structure is up to the task. The Uly hasn't been dropped off an old bridge- yet...

Alex, it's pretty well camo'd from the eyes in the sky, including trees growing out of the bridge deck:

The good new is, if it'll support plant life, it might support your Uly!!!!!!

Even then I didn't do it

I only enjoy shine when I am alone or with someone and of course for medicinal purposes

I have a friend in the Ozarks that is still firming up the date for a promised visit to his home. Possibly for the end of May, but it likely will be the first part of June so Memorial Day should be perfect timing for me still being in NC.

That is a great photo and message! Looks like my kind of folks and I'd love to say hello and raise a glass in honor of the tradition and all it represents. I'll watch your posts and/or pm as the time gets closer.

Thank you

Honorary guest

bobw,

Hey it would be an honor to have you there. We try to add a few new faces to the family fold every year. Mike and Sue Breedlove came to my rescue nearly 10 years ago when my Dad was killed by a cager on US28 just outside of Franklin, NC. They helped open doors and make things happen that I wouldn't have been able to do on my own. We became friends/family immediately.

At the time I was running around with an unruly bunch of Buell riders, most of whom knew my Dad from the gatherings we attended. Most of those Buellers can honestly say their addiction to the brand started with Ferris's enthusiasm... Ferris's fault. On the first year after Dad's death we had a memorial ride that Mike and Sue hosted. Since then it has grown every year to the point it's a lot to ask of them. We have decided to make this next one, the 10th, our last.

The ride is short in nature, 10 miles out to the intersection and 10 miles back. It's the gathering of like-minded souls that has really been key to the success of the event. Most all who attend are riders and all, as you might suspect, have lost a brother or sister to the ride. We've become an extended family like no other I've ever known. When Ferris's mom came down with cancer we didn't let it go unnoticed, we rallyed around for her benefit because Ferris was our brother.

Cool stuff this group of ours has accomplished, more stories than could be told in one evening. But, no doubt, you'll come away with some new friendships that you'll have for the rest of your life.

Please do join us.

JB2,

I'm sorry for your loss, but what a Blessing to have these friendships come together in this way. Without hijacking this too badly, I will just say that I understand, respect and can appreciate very much what this group and their support means to you and each other.

This is too much of a "meant to be" opportunity to my way of thinking, so I will mark the date now and get details as the time nears.

Safe travels and Cheers
