"High Heels" flipped inverted with about 20 feet to go and finished her descent upside-down. I bet there's an interesting interview here...

I love photographing kids:

This little charmer belonged to one of the SAR folks. I still had my helmet on (Shoei modular), and although it was open I must have looked Martian to him anyway. He never spoke, but the look was constantly wide-eyed and "agog." I asked his mom if I could take a photo, and she smiled and nodded in the affirmative. My new buddy wasn't so sure, however, and sunk deep into his mother's clutches. "No worries," I said, "I think I can reach you from clear back here." I was about seven or eight feet away, but zoomed in tight and got what exactly I wanted. Fun stuff. :-)

After the fellas from RoadRUNNER left Damascus, Virginia and trike'd their way through the Backbone Rock Tunnel, they took aim on Shady Valley, Tennessee, a notable moto-destination in these parts. I did the same.

Church "billboards" often leave me cold, the ones that try to scare you into being a good human, anyway. This message struck a chord with me, so much so I sweated in the hot afternoon sun trying to find an angle that didn't include cars, telephone poles or power lines. Not a "trophy" photo by any stretch, but the message still resonates.

Welcome to the Shady Valley Country Store, home of The Snake, and this contraption:

I very much want to hear it run (and then mow my lawn...)

The Snake draws a lot of bikes on summer weekends, and this clean Kawi was my favorite of the bunch on this fine day:

And another nifty set of wheels out spanking the Snake today:

I lost a TON of time muscling my way through Boone, North Carolina while heading back to the Parkway; I've got to find a better way to get from A to B in this part of the world. Finally back on the Parkway, I ignored the looming thunderclouds long enough to bag this photo:

I parked the Road King up on the Parkway and hiked a couple hundred yards, and got exactly one photo before the battery tanked on my camera. Yep, I carry a spare, but it was back in the bike, and by the time I humped back to the Parkway I didn't want to ignore the weather any longer and decided to button things up and soldier on. I'll come back for more photos here one of these days; I think I can do better.

The rain is no big deal, of course. It's the nasty-assed electricity that typically accompanies the rain in this part of the world at this time of the year that gets my undivided attention:
