I'd like to hear a definitive explaination from the folks who manage & operate ADVRider. What's going on with the disappearance of this thread and when can we expect to see it return?

Thanks in advance.

This cache thing has some legs to it but KTM's probably got their 690 legal team scrambling the interns to penetrate Google data centers and corrupt the remaining records of their bikes ever having any problems

More info on Google Cache.

Does anyone know if the cache can be browsed page by page? Can it be accessed programmatically to regenerate our loss?

Can I let go of the past and move on?

Seems to me the 690 Mega Fix is out there, just hiding.....

Cry Response from administrators?

I thought it a bit strange when my email stopped getting the 690 thread daily postings. Has anyone actually heard from a forum administrator? Yes, it was getting impossibly bloated but it contained a wealth of info which could be coaxed out via Google search. I am totally bummed if it is truly gone. I can't even reference my own postings... it's like they never existed!

Depressing.

Are you able to make it work for the first line (Regulator Swap)

I paste this into Google search and get

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=16636660

[IMG]http://gallery.me.com/beautrivers/101281/GCa*che/web.jpg[/IMG]
You're right. It looks like the braindead way is to pull it out of Google cache page by page:

So search for:

http://www.advrider.com/forums/print...p=100&page=187
http://www.advrider.com/forums/print...p=100&page=188
http://www.advrider.com/forums/print...p=100&page=189
http://www.advrider.com/forums/print...p=100&page=190

Etc.

I bet someone could write a WGET script to iterate over the URLs and download everything. Not sure if Google cache inserts random strings into their cache URLs, that could complicate things but still doable.

Talk to us.

It can't be that hard - from 1 to x WGET 'our knowledge' jam in text file and serve up somewhere we could link to it. At a minimum 690 fans could snap a local copy for reference.

It looks like the cache link itself has some random strings so it's not so simple that way, but I found a post that suggests using the search URL as input and then having WGET grab the link from there.

http://www.mail-archive.com/bug-wget.../msg00046.html

Actually, I realized there's an easier way. Just use this command:

Make a text file (filelist.txt), with all the addresses of the results pages [IN OUR CASE]:
http://www.google.com/search?q=http%...ient=firefox-a
http://www.google.com/search?q=http%...ient=firefox-a
http://www.google.com/search?q=http%...ient=firefox-a
etc.

Then use this command (all on one line, no spaces after --exclude-domains until
the space before --input-file):
wget -r -l1 -UFirefox -H -erobots=off --wait 1
--exclude-domains=images.google.com,
maps.google.com,news.google.com,mail.google.com,vi deo.google.com,groups.google.com,
books.google.com,scholar.google.com,finance.google .com,blogsearch.google.com,
www.youtube.com,picasaweb.google.com,docs.google.c om,sites.google.com,
translate.google.com --input-file=filelist.txt

All of your cache files will end up in a single subdirectory named after the IP
address that hosted the cached files. When I tested it, it was 74.125.45.104,
but that may vary. They are easy to identify since they have cache in the
filename and look similar to this:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=20&gl=us&ie=UTF-8&client=firefox-a
I think what that does is that it excludes all the other Google URLs on the search page and grabs only the cached ADVrider page.

Edit: Automatic [URL] tags and line breaks are giving me an aneurysm.

These compooters got their quirks. Nothing like our FI set up though.

I'm formulating some thoughts - may try and grab back some of what went lost.

why gone

just an opinion but i expect the moderator with the wisdom of protecting the Advrider site has wisely become concerned at this talk of legal action between ktm and a member and does not want the site to become part of it and so i expect may have deleted it,,,,after all one must have some sceptisism as to how one member can get thro 8 [ i think it was ? ] faulty petrol pumps ?? Advrider is a large and comprehensive site enjoyed by thousands every day and legal action is a topic that in this case should have been kept with the owner not in public...again just an opinion......

Losing the big thread...IMO...is not a real issue. That thread was chaotic at best and though it contained a lot of good info it was very hard to sort through. The new Wunderfest is taking off nicely and we have another thread or two being used to organize the useful data, solutions, problems etc.
