RIP Beaney

I'm late to hear the news. I, too, am another beneficiary of his dedication to solving a problem. Godspeed.

The PO had already done the canisterectomy. SAS is still on. I'll pick up a a resistor and remove it. T Other than being unnecessary - any benefits from removal?

Seems to run better. That could be placebo effect though

My soft luggage is scratching up the sides of my (stock) tank.
I was thinking that some decals should fix that problemo.
I've seen the Rally Raid tank decals. I don't have the RR set up, so it would look kind goofy on mine. Nice looking bike, though.

Anyone know who else makes them?

The decal I'd like to have are below this dinky ascii arrow (it says: "Rally Raid" and "cpl"):

Like many others on this thread, I'm gearing up for spring and summer riding. I've still only got about 10 miles on mine, been working it over with updates and reliability fixes I picked up here. SAS is gone, RR tank bolts are installed along with new (smaller) rear tail lights and the RR Uni filter. You can see in the picture the "nuclearaust" has been removed; I'm waiting for a Wings NOS to arrive. I know it looks like the headlight group is out of alignment and it is, disconnected waiting on the new windscreen (ordered the wrong one the first time around). Please pardon the very messy state of my bikeshop, I've got issues with two other bikes and I haven't been very good about keeping the place in it's usual state of (reasonable) cleanliness.

Anyway, hoping to retire next year and to do some long distance riding---trying in the meantime to get my 690 as reliable as I can. Thanks again to all the great posts and "posters" on this thread, I didn't know this bike at all before I bought it, now I feel likes it's an old friend and I haven't even been anywhere on it yet!

Best wishes,

Lee...

Thanks, Modeselector... I finished building an airplane a couple of years ago (from a kit, not from scratch!) and found out that it takes a lot longer if you don't have a "place" to put your tools down when you're finished with them even for a few minutes. I spent untold amounts of time looking for the screwdriver or pliers I had JUST used (you young guys don't have this problem maybe, but at my age, I sure do). Anyway, squaring away that process is part of my current thinking with my "other" hobby too. I need a place for everything I'm working with. A place for all the memorabilia I think is cool that my wife doesn't care to have in the house ain't all that bad either!

I'm pretty much back together now except for the screen and exhaust...still waiting on them. Good riding weather is here, where are my parts??!!

Head can come off with the motor in the frame. The cam can be removed as well. Takes a little finagling.
