Like many others on this thread, I'm gearing up for spring and summer riding. I've still only got about 10 miles on mine, been working it over with updates and reliability fixes I picked up here. SAS is gone, RR tank bolts are installed along with new (smaller) rear tail lights and the RR Uni filter. You can see in the picture the "nuclearaust" has been removed; I'm waiting for a Wings NOS to arrive. I know it looks like the headlight group is out of alignment and it is, disconnected waiting on the new windscreen (ordered the wrong one the first time around). Please pardon the very messy state of my bikeshop, I've got issues with two other bikes and I haven't been very good about keeping the place in it's usual state of (reasonable) cleanliness.

Anyway, hoping to retire next year and to do some long distance riding---trying in the meantime to get my 690 as reliable as I can. Thanks again to all the great posts and "posters" on this thread, I didn't know this bike at all before I bought it, now I feel likes it's an old friend and I haven't even been anywhere on it yet!

Best wishes,

Lee...

Thanks, Modeselector... I finished building an airplane a couple of years ago (from a kit, not from scratch!) and found out that it takes a lot longer if you don't have a "place" to put your tools down when you're finished with them even for a few minutes. I spent untold amounts of time looking for the screwdriver or pliers I had JUST used (you young guys don't have this problem maybe, but at my age, I sure do). Anyway, squaring away that process is part of my current thinking with my "other" hobby too. I need a place for everything I'm working with. A place for all the memorabilia I think is cool that my wife doesn't care to have in the house ain't all that bad either!

I'm pretty much back together now except for the screen and exhaust...still waiting on them. Good riding weather is here, where are my parts??!!

Head can come off with the motor in the frame. The cam can be removed as well. Takes a little finagling.

Whats that on oil filter cover?

Looking at the "show us your 690" thread i come accross this photo and that little grey oil filter cover got my attention as it seems to have an hose coming out of it:

Is it a specific later on model change or a lubricating upgrade?

do you think the aftermarket vinyl decals we put on our plastic would be good?
it would be a good excuse for a kewl new graphic.

I think that's the 12+ model years that use the 690 Duke engine w/ more cc and updated oil flow to the head.

dont see why it wouldnt work , except aftermarket decal vinyl is normally a lot thinner than the protection film, depending on who makes the decals of course.

Could it be retrofitted to "older" 690 engines?

If you're thinking of improving oil flow it's definitely not worth it.

That hose is there only because of the oil pressure sensor. It's just a 30 cm piece of hose which has an oil pressure sensor in the end so it makes practically no difference to the oil flow.

Was thinking it might be a connection to the engine head for oil flow improvement.

Need to find something else to spend money...

any positive/negative comments about the cleanspeed brake pedal ?

http://www.cleanspeedeng.com/Brake%20Pedal.htm

cheaper than the RR version and different milling design.
