I've found that ~33% rider sag has worked well for me on all of my bikes regardless of total travel. I had Javier work my R shock to get 285mm travel so 95-100mm is where I started. I weigh ~230lbs with a 90nm spring set to 100mm rider sag, I ended up with 20mm free sag. I think that I'd prefer to bump up to the 95nm and it should be spot on for my weight. Forks still have stock .52kg/mm springs and are borderline too soft, but too close to justify a change... I think I just need a little stiffer valving and they should be good.

My bike did this for one day about a month or two after I bought it in August 2009 then has run fine ever since until yesterday. I am going to focus on the coil and other wiring first, but I also ordered one of those fuel pumps for the Husky. I am going to clean up the connections around the throttle body too and use dielectric grease.

FWIW, I'm at 30% of total travel for rear sag now. I was at 33%, but the action was harsh, I thought I was too low in the stroke. Trickiest suspension I've ever messed with, balance is not nice.

Visor Down says this new adventure model is based on the RC8 but I see a 690 engine there.
Looks like KTM took styling cues from the old F650GS.

Well that thing sure looks ugly. Lets hope its just another ugly concept photo and if they make a real one they work all the ugliness out of it.

If it does look like that then I saved a bunch of money.

Had a closer look at the wiring tonight. No obvious shorts but one lead on the coil was a little loose. Started the bike and wiggled it around to no effect. The engine only died when I almost pulled the lead off, but there certainly could have been a loose connection there that was causing a problem that I fixed by wiggling the wires around yesterday. I crimped the connector and now it fits tight. I checked all the connector plugs around the throttle body and all looked clean. Added dielectric grease anyway. Nothing left to do now but some test riding.....

The coil connectors have been a common problem in South Africa as well. I've reported on it in the old, recently demised super threat

Correct me if I'm wrong--but I seem to recall you use the Scott's shark fin rear rotor protectors ( which are pretty beefy) on all of your off road bikes. If that is the case ( and I know you are a man of few words) would you mind briefly sharing the story of how you bent the rear rotor?

Well its not a 690, but this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeswy...layer_embedded gives video proof that KTM does quality assurance checks at the end of the assembly line--at least on their 2011 RC8R 1190s. It's a 5 min video, kinda interesting. About 3/4 the way through the camera guy zooms in on a sign posted as a warning to the operator of the testing equipment. I'm curious as to why if the factory is in Austria (I'm assuming)--why the sign is in English and not German?
