Velocette and Ducati GT750

Two projects on the way from my cousin in Cali. We made the trip out last week to prepare
everything for shipping.

Velocette in Norton Featherbed frame and a 1974 Ducati GT750.
The tank in the picture was built back in the 80's in England, I have the makers name in
the file coming with the bike. Mart hammered out the seat base,
Mart also did all the build up in the 80's. Engine is ready to assemble and he built a conversion
to belt drive primary (we're not sure that will hold up but going to try it). The tranny has been rebuilt.
The engine and other bits are in the boxes and ready to ship now.

The Ducati really only needs the tank cleaned and por 15 and the front master rebuilt or replaced.
A good clean up and new plugs and she should run. Tires might be needed to.

Both bikes have sat since the late 80's.

Put the ducati engine in the featherbed frame!

Seriously, great pair of bikes. Both will be worth restoring.

would that be a Ducaton or a Nortucati?

I'd already decided on the Veloton!

I hope to ride the duck some this fall, the velo......maybe next spring if I'm real persistent this winter.

Actually, what happened to the rest of the Velo? I've heard that they actually handled pretty good.
Ducaton just doesn't sound right, so I suppose the Velo engine is the way to go.

Does the collection of parts have suitably shaped and drilled plates? Or will you have to make those?

The original velo frame is with the parts but it's been so cobbled up in the years it was raced it is a mess.
Mart has also made all the plates to mount the velo engine.

The Norton Tank looks like a Unity equipe - They make a seat and oil tank to match

Update,

I decided to get the Ducati 750GT going first since it would be ready to ride before winter.

I polished and cleaned, por 15 the inner of the tank since rust had been a problem.
New petcocks and fuel lines.
New tires.
Cleaned the chain and made a rub block to stop any rubbing on the cases,
Installed new mc and caliper. What a pain to bleed.
New steering head bearings, the wheel bearings seem fine.
Sprockets great, chain okay , new non-oring on the way.
Battery and made a battery hold down from a fiat soft top hold down. Looks original.
New Handle bars,
found the stock foot pegs, brake pedal, and shifter and installed.
Made a little rod out of a roller bearing to replace and put back in correct order
the clutch engage/disengage rods.
Cleaned carbs,
Tried to run it, ran a small bit
cleaned carbs again,
when to Harbor Freight and bought a cheap ultrasonic cleaner (2.5 liter)
cleaned carbs again (gas left in them for 20 years turns to shellac)
Tried to run it again, it spit and sputter and kicked me.
Worked on the carbs some more and
finally got the accelerator pumps to work (these are Dellorto 32 PHFs)
Made up a new set of plug wires.
Decided to time engine since the beast decided it didn't want to fire.
Timed the ignition and now know the finer points of degree wheel usage.
Ignition is a Dyna S.
The new battery died while timing the engine. So, something is wrong with
the new battery or wasn't fully charged to begin with. I put it on the charger and
made sure the new battery was fully charged before I went out to kick it today.

Kicked a few times using the choke/enrichment thingy. I'm not sure it's working so
I pumped the acel pumps by working the throttle till I saw gas squirting down the throats.
Kicked about 2 times and she fired up. Once it warmed I set the idle down a bit and decided
I'm riding the beast before I continue. Put on a work coat and a ball cap and set off
down our gravel road and back. She ran and shifted great and I love the sounds
of the bevel gears. Brought her back in the shop to fix up a few other odds and ends.
I'd have rode her further but the battery wasn't tied down and I was riding on California 1994 tags.

Seriously though, congratulations on getting the Duc sorted so quickly! That's fantastic news!

(let me know when you are ready to send her back to a good home in our state!)

hey killfile, the bike actually was smuggle to California by my cousin who is a native Virginian.
I was summoned to return our kidnapped Duck to it's home fly way....Thanks for the note and nothing would be
finer than to ride it to California and back one day.

out for a short shake down today. It's a bit weird shifting with the brake.

So I never got the Dell"Orto carbs running correctly, tried a pair of Mikunis I had and they ran fine for a couple of
shop runs but then went to flooding. Probably sticking float needles. So ordered the kits for the Dells. I like the pumpers on them. In the meantime I've painted the frame on the Velo and have the engine on the bench and starting assembly.

Frames really dark green not the shade that the flash gives in the picture.

When you're done with those, maybe you can help me out with my two Royal Enfields.

I've been suffering from some serious inertia. My goal is still May of next year, but I may only have one finished, and the other just mocked up.

hey that would be great but Munich, isn't that across a big pond? ;)

Looks like a couple of great projects. Like those tanks. It would have been nice if I'd been to the one to
tear the Velocette down. Right now I'm hunting for the studs that attach the pushrod tube, etc....................................

It's a state of mind rather than a location in space.

Munich = Home of BMW
Redditch = Ancestral home of Royal Enfield.
