PNW: Any Kayakers Out There for a Paddle on the South Sound?

Hi all,
I just got a kayak and would like to find some people in the South Sound to paddle with. I'm a bit of a newbie, but can keep up with moderate kayakers. My kayak is fast but I've got a lot to learn.

Or if anyone knows of a kayakers forum to meet new people, please let me know. I know there is a South Sound Area Kayakers group, but their list isn't really for informal paddles. They like to keep it to their formal weekend paddles.

Safe travels.

Have you paddled the Nisqually Delta, olygirl? I hear that's a fun one. I'd join you for a paddle, but I'm three hours north of Olympia.

Good luck in finding paddling partners and enjoy your time on the water.

Well, if you are ever in the South Sound area with your boat, let me know!
I'm really looking forward to checking out Nisqually now that they pulled a lot of the dikes. Although, I'm not thrilled about hunting season in that area. I love guns, but I just never know what someone is point them at while hunting.

While that looks like fun, you miss out on the "vroom-vroom" noises you can make while siting on a bike. What noise do kayaks make? I make splashy noises since my technique isn't that great. :)

Thanks for the move. I didn't know if it would have been appropriate to post non-MC stuff outside of Inmates.

Captn Jack's

Hi olygirl, if your going to be paddling around the sound ya might want to pick up a Captan Jack's "Tide&Current Almanac". ISBN 978-1878258-71-7.

Take a paddle up to Shelton.

I am still trying to figure out how to strap my OK Trident Angler on to a KLR.

Tease.
That's pretty much a fishing site! I love fishing, but as a vegetarian, it doesn't do me much good for paddling. Seriously, I can out-fish almost anyone, but I really want to just kick back and paddle.

Yep. Been there, done that. Friend has waterfront property in those parts, so it's an easy place to launch. :)
I love Shelton.

Did you name it The BeBop?

If you ever get up to Bellingham, PM me. Maybe I can get out for a little piddle. Stop and pick up Sirloynz on your way up.

I was in the paddlesports business for 15 years, working all over the country and in various parts of the world. My one big piece of advice is to take a lesson from Shawna and Leonne on Orcas, they are the best sea kayak instructors in North America, bar none. And do it now before you learn bad habits that will be detrimental to your pulminary system.

Then look here for paddling partners (but not instruction!)

http://www.washingtonkayakclub.org/

http://www.paddling.net/

http://www.mountaineers.org/seattle/kayak/

http://www.oopskayak.org/

Congrats on the new boat. have fun and be safe (not a bad idea to learn about the theory of the Three Concentric Circles of Safety, hypothermia , and even take a class with your local power squadron to best learn the rules of the water)

See you on the water, Fay Valentine. Gambatte, Kudasai!.

+1. Lots of options in Skagit/Whatcom county. I paddled Guemes a month ago, now I want to take on Cypress.
