Well the day started not looking too well. Rain and fog up here in maryland. "so we're gonna get a little muddy" i thought to myself. Little did i know that once i crossed into VA it was clear blue skies. We headed out onto some gravel roads and i noticed that my shock was stacking, so at the next stop i backed the compression dampenening off by 10 or so clicks, problem solved.

I think this was neer Elizabeth Furnace off of Fort Valley

semi group shot at one of our rest stops neer a large flagsone pile populated by lizzards

This was wild, an abbandoned ski lift just running up the mountain...

This trippy GL1100 goldwing with diamond plate everything. this guy was hardcore. 50 years of riding, i hope i'm doing half as well.

And eventually we made it to Peter's mill. this was a blast. definitely requireing a revisit in short order.
here we conflab while resting.

I can't belive a GS made it up here

A friggin GS up here??? looks like a Damn BMW comercial.

Victory!!! you bet it was rough for a first timer.

My DRZ incased in the brown glory.

A FUKIN' GS made it up here!!! Moses parting the Brown Sea.

oops.

All the locals on 4wheelers were gawking at the damn street bike on the mountain. i don't think Omar got the memo.

Got one of Greg too but it didn't come out quite as well (freakin' digital camera shutter delay) ...

BAMF ...

Er, someone tell the n00b that a magnetic tank bag stuffed with crap is a bad idea for this ride ...

Fortunately, Omar had a spare zip-tie for me after the rear tire tore the plate off the bike (and someone else -- Barry? -- bent the plate back for me, thanks) ...

Best of all, I dropped the bike twice in the first five minutes and no one took pictures! (I think ...)

Beautiful ride home, too ... Thanks again for the ride.

Dave,

Sorry you couldn't make it today. We had a blast. We didn't get to ride the WVA section today, which is about another 3 hours riding time. We should go out and ride it one day this week if your schedule permits.

I would like to point out that I am not a slouch when it comes to riding off-road. I'm not slow, I'm not way fast, generally in the front of the pack. This was the first ride on my new (to me) KTM Adventure, so I was learning the bike. But, I could N-O-T close the gap on Omar. I was running 3rd gear through the crap you see in the photos and Omar was running just as fast, on a 500 lb. bike, with street tires.

I'm selling all my dirt shit now.

Barry

Thanks guys for the killer ride yesterday. Great pics too. As soon as I fix the gs we should hit the gravel route that we missed yesterday.

I like this pic.

At one point early in the ride, he shot ahead of me, gave me the devil's horns (kinda like Rossi flipping off Biaggi), and popped a wheelie. When he landed I could see a huge grin on his face in his mirror.

I think this should be the "Omar":
