I am going to order a Thermarest and Go-Kot. Should the Thermarest pad be narrower than the cot or is it okay if it is wider? The Thermarest pads come in 25" and 30" widths and the Go-Kot is 26" wide.

Luxury Lite cot.

Packs very small, very light, extremely comfortable, made in the USA, and Bruce really does stand behind his product. Cannot give this cot high enough marks.

Try hammock camping. There's no comparing the difference in comfort between a hammock and any other option mentioned in this thread.

For reference I've currently own and use 2 self inflating thermarests, 1 z-rest, 1 Neo Air inflatable "traveler" and the luxury lite cot.

Hammock beats them all, even when they are all stacked on top of each other.

Check this link for a taste of the possibilities.. LINK

Doesn't matter too much. I've used both widths on Go-Kot, Byer Tri-Lite and LuxuryLite - and it's more about how much air you let out of the mattress. Point being that you don't need the extra width. I noticed that the LuxuryLite is a bit stiffer - my daughter slid off when she slept on that one. But you can tune that by not using all the legs. Go-Kot doubles up on legs at the hinges, so you can tune it by leaving one out. Tri-Lite needs all it's legs.

LuxuryLite is the only one that packs short enough to get into a saddlebag.

That's great. As long as your campground doesn't look like this:

I'm not saying you won't have to think about where you're going and what you're doing, which is why I still own all the gear I have. But comfort wise, hammocks are the bomb.

I used the Lux Cot and a BA pad. Very comfey!! But I found the Lux Cot to be a little more than what I wanted in the put together and take apart department. Did'nt take long, but just longer than I wanted to spend. Also, the Lux Cot works best under the tent.

Now I use the BA bag with a Exped 9 inflating pad. Almost as good and a little warmer if its cold outside

That'd only work if you're a skinny fecker.

LuxuryLite and an Exped 9DLX Synmat for this little black duck. Used to just use a canvas swag with a 2 inch foam mattrees, kick the rocks aside, careful not to roll it out near ants, try and find a hip hole, sleep feet to the wind but uphill (not always possible), avoid prickles, thorns and snakeholes. With the swag on the bike, I started using a thermarest self inflating mattress. Saved heaps of room rolled up on the pillion seat. Then went to an Exped - great stuff. Far more comfy and packs super thin. Then ditched the swag for a USMC bivvy bag with the Exped underneath. Super small bedroll now. Perfect for the bike. Topped it all off with the inclusion of a LuxuryLite cot. What a dream...best night's sleep ever. No more mucking around clearing a patch of ground of sticks, twigs and rocks. Stuff the ants too! Just find somewhere that looks level, pump up the Exped and, I'll say it again, enjoy the best night's sleep ever.
