Adventures of a NOOB in the forests of PA

I have lurked here for far to long. I made the commitment and bought my first 2 wheeled motor vehicle over labor day weekend this year. I will be chronicling me and my friends shenanigans here in one thread until we get our acts together and I learn how to ride and we go on a real trip.

(Back story) I always wanted to learn to ride but mom always thought dirt bikes where to dangerous. So I got a quad, after 15 odd years of riding and lately racing quads I must say I think she had it backwards, mine has ran over me a lot and I know what im doing! Anyhow my buddies have been on me saying if im going to be on ADV rider reading about all this awesome riding that you have to learn and get a bike. Thing was none of them had one until about a month ago. First one switched his old ktm race bike to dual sport then when we were down at the steel city national the other went and bought a brand new 500xcw and duel sported it. So now im odd man out and I have to get one. Which leads us up to now.

first ride

My first ride ever on a motorcycle was not documented, which is prob a good thing seeing as how the little xt 225 had a plate off of a gsxr 600 and i had no motorcycle permit nor the title to the bike. However i did put it on my insurance, one out of 4 ainít bad right?
Anyhow we went 55 miles mostly dirt roads and two tracks, some baby heads and even a few logs to cross. And for shits and giggles the last 10 miles home was in almost darkness on the slab in the rain. Good times! I never went down and "smelled like freedom" when we got back.

second ride

one of the main reasons my buddies wanted me to get a bike and learn was because there both navigationally deficient and how no idea where to go or how to get there. i on the other hand spent about every weekend from the time i got my drivers license till about 20 years old out on the back roads, right of ways and tram roads of northern PA. plus im an Eagle scout so even if don't know where im at or going i can still find my way and if i can't i can kill us something and start a fire!

so our first trip with any real destination is the Medix hotel for some wings. the medix is a sweet little place out in the sticks on the "world famous" triple nickel also know as state route 555 we took mainly forest service roads and the Caledonia pike to get there. and atv trails and back roads to get home, but sadly we all didnít make it. Joe got his 39th flat tire of the summer after laughing at me for falling down twice in 2 minutes (first two downs by the way, went down on both sides just to get it out of the way early. Even though im sure i will be down a lot more!)
pics to come.

Welcome to the asylum. Youíll enjoy the two wheel freedom. The worst I ever got busted up was when my Polaris 700 rolled over on me for no good reason. My spleen, liver and ribs have never been quite the same. Anyway enjoy the ride.

Excellent! I love that area of PA. All those great State forests and Allegheny National. I was gonna ride up to ANF this weekend until my bike tooka shizz today.
Have fun, be safe and take a lot of photos!

Yes there is a LOT to see just in the few counties around me, which is good. Get my feet wet close to home. We are already talking about a trip to CO next fall! The ANF is great as well, ever done the "trail bike" loop around Marienville?
