Didn't hear anything about the road to the top of Mount Wilson, but I suspect it is in very good shape. Lots of FAA towers on the top of Mount Wilson. All of the Scenic Backway was in very good shape . . . would have been passable on my Versys, but probably not so good for the Vulcan.

Page, AZ

Rode out to Page a few days ago. Out via Jacob Lake, back via Kanab. Highlight was the late afternoon views of Lake Powell. Here are the pics.

Started out by driving past Quail Reservoir. Looks good.

Also Sand Hollow Reservoir.

Favorite street in Hurricane. Green trees match the bike quite nicely.

Very windy. Dust devils as I approach Fredonia.

All your basic necessities available in Fredonia.

Still very windy. At the viewpoint on 89A above House Rock. Distant view to the Vermilion Cliffs.

Excellent moto road and very scenic. The bridge across Soap Creek.

Short stop near the Cliff Dwellers Lodge.

The famous Navajo Bridge.

Bridge with Vermilion Cliffs in background.

View from the bridge. Marble Canyon and the Colorado River.

The standard route to Page . . . Route 89 . . . is still closed.

Detour a bit further south. Just means more riding time.

Turn back north at Gap. Well marked detour.

North on Navajo #20.

Previously dirt . . . this is 100% brand new beautiful asphalt.

The map. The yellow highlighted #20 is all new pavement . . . ready for your riding pleasure. Gap (gas station) is at the southern end of #20.

Local cows aren't used to much traffic. They're not quite sure what to make of me.

The source of the water. Very interesting to travel along a brand new paved road. Easy access to some off-the-beaten path type places.

As you descend towards Page there are big views of the Navajo Generating Station.

More views with Navajo Mountain in the background.

Twisty roads for the Versys near Antelope Point Marina.

View of Lake Powell from near Glen Canyon Dam.

Versys up high at the Wahweap viewpoint.

Wahweap Marina and Lake Powell.

The big view.

Very popular at sunset. I wasn't alone . . . but I was the only moto.

Thanks for riding along!

RRR have you taken a tour down into Antelope Canyon yet by the Navajo Generating Station?

Great Pics

Hey there! Next time you're over this way (Page) let me know and the lunch or dinner (or whatever) offer still stands. Thanks for showing off some pretty country that we've got around here. Lot's of tourists this time of year though. I understand that all the hotels have been full every night starting the week before the Memorial Day weekend (and we have a lot of hotels).

WOW!!! I can't believe how low Lake Powell is. Went across the dam a few years ago but not since. Lake Mead is also getting very low.

I've been following this thread for some time but haven't post a lot in it. Plan is to ride up that way on 6/8 or 6/9, camping in Virgin River gorge on the way up to Bryce for a couple of days. Back on the 12th & looking to hang around St George for a day or so. Is there a campground locally that is not too expensive or full of RVs? If you are around perhaps we can meet for coffee, lunch, or a ride. Actually checking the area out for possible relocation. Yeah, yet another SoCal guy looking to evacuate... I'll be on the Triumph Tiger for this trip.

We finished our 10 day 2200 mile trip that included a lot of riding in the St George area.

My captioned pictures are here:

http://wbbnm.smugmug.com/Motorcycles/Grand-Canyon-2014/41060276_pVJ2Cr#!i=3271444555&k=FqKHSPv

I posted a filtered version of our GPS tracks in ADV GPS Tracks Rockies.

http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=981366

Here are some highlights in the area.

Casto Canyon - a fun scenic ATV trail east of Panguitch UT

We did Pennsylvania Canyon south of Mt Ella again. The upper part thru the stream bed had been greatly improved since last year. The lower part thru the hills was kind of steep and rocky and hadn't seen much maintenance.

A nice scenic ride thru Joshua trees west of Alamo NV to Badger Canyon.

We found going up Elbow Canyon outside Mesquite a bit of a challenge. But everybody made it with no real problems. I could not decide whether to put it in the trip, but RRR's report from a couple of months ago made it look okay. We were glad we did it.

We discovered that by hiking a little we could see the infamous Lava Falls rapids from Toroweap.

A spectacular view of Kanab Creek Canyon west of Jacob Lake. We had to down and up a slightly nasty hill to get here and some of the guys decided not to try it.

We really enjoyed the riding on minor forest roads in the Kaibob National forest west of Jacob Lake and north of the North Rim Lodge.

Crazy Jug Point

I would again like to thank Red Rock Rider for maintaining this thread and giving us lots of ideas for lots of great places to ride in the area.

If you are talking about our Grand Canyon trip, I wasn't planning to put any more here. I don't want to step on RRR's toes any more than I have done.

Hopefully the captions on my SmugMug pictures combined with the waypoints in the GPS tracks are self explanatory.

A few of they guys took a lot of videos. Hopefully they will edit and post them somewhere. When that happens, I will make note of it here.

Our trip was pretty uneventful. One guy had a fuel pump go out on his KTM 690 in Delores CO. He managed to get himself and the bike back home to Los Alamos NM, get his KTM 990 and rejoin us for the last three days of the ride. We only had one flat tire. No injury or damage creating falls.

Sam's birthday ride-part ll

Second year in a row I spent my birthday with these pirates!

Thanks guys! You've given me another memorable day.

StG, Simbaboy, RedRockRider at the Brian Head Peak, UT.

RRR, you do look pretty happy with your "new place in the mountains" that you've been telling us about.

Standing tall and spending some time with me on my birthday, I feel special! Thanks again StG, Simbaboy & RRR
